Slightly disappointed by this read, it was highly anecdotal, and less informative than I imagined. It barely scratched the surface on a lot of issues, and glaringly lacked intersectionality throughout. Having read a few books on this topic I found I had nothing really to take from this. I would highly recommend 'It's Not About the Burqua' by Mariam Khan and 'Headscarves and Hymens' by Mona Eltahawy if you're looking for a read on feminism within Islam and the middle east, as they are both more comprehensive, analytical and intersectional.

This book explores the historic origin of the 'Caucasian' race as well as the relationship between the white race and people of colour. Providing a deep insight into the history of both black and white slavery, it challenges the ideology of race that much of our modern understanding is based upon. For anyone interested in the relationships not only between races but within them, this is a comprehensive and enlightening read.

A unique combination of testimony from immigrants living in Britain today. It explores the intersection of different cultures and religion in Britain through the microcosm of the individual. Deeply personal and moving, it uses personal stories of racism and discrimination to communicate the hardship, and the beauty that comes with the identity of 'immigrant'.
