Tags: M/M erotic paranormal romance, fat Black bi MMC x pansexual demon, dual POVs, a rescue (DELICIOUS), all POC cast, lots of queer rep, primal play, takes place in Nigeria, standalone in series, biting, ørgasm control, dom/sub, magical saliva (put to good use lolololol)

Triggers: stalking, animal unalivings, threats, religious trauma, queerphobia, harr@ssment, m*rder, PTSD, religious cult, violence

The Thot’s Plot (a segment of me summarizing the plot while high (also I literally forget the plot of a book as soon as I finish it (also I’m listening to Coffee by Chappell Roan & low key crying (It’s one of my fave songs ever, you should listen to it if you wanna get in your bag)))):
So we have our MMC - Saint who has been SPOOKED (rightfully so, I’d be scared shitless if I were in his position) by stalkers and threats from his ex-cult (who happen to be religious af… I’m not saying the Bible is at fault but I’m also not saying it’s not not at fault). My boy just wants to live his gay ass life in PEACE. My poor baby only found happiness and relief (both emotionally and sexually) through sexy dreams where he was chased by a hot demon in a forest and then got railed up against a tree. Sounds like a very relaxing dream I’d like to have. I’m not asking a sexy demon to enter my dreams and throw me around like a potato sack but I’m also not not asking a sexy demon to enter my dreams and throw me around like a potato sack. Anyway, little does my bb boy know that the demon of his dreams is real af. Said demon is a mister Knight/Cunning j chilling in Hell and unhappy af except when he gets to rail in dreamland.
This is where I’d put spoilers but I’m not doing that. I’m just gonna say that Saint finds himself in need of protection and it’s a job only a demon can do. Also, there’s like a ton of f*cking in the book. A great bonus! Oh Jesus a one direction song just came on so I’m emo now and that’s all I got bye. I had to skip and True Blue by boygenius came on so I’m done.

The Thot’s Thoughts:
Wooo doggies that was a scrumptious book. It had so much I love: lots of smut, a protective love interest, diversity, cults, and Hell. A girl can’t ask for much more tbh. Also, the book was only like 220 pages which is the perfect length for my attention deficient brain ( I don’t think I spelled that right). The book was able to be fun, sexy, romantic, deep, and meaningful while not being messy. Also, I could really feel that buildup of the relationship between Saint and Knight. Also like starting and ending a book with s3x is a great idea, authors take notes!!! I had a big hard relate to religious trauma and was appreciative of the terms like “deprogramming” and “rewiring” for that journey from departing a strict religion.
Just super good all around. My Eddie is hitting me so hard rn that I can’t write more but JUST READ IT. IT’S SO CUTE AND GOOD AND SEXY. UGHHHH Viano Oniomoh, you just gained a devoted fan🫡💜

This audiobook just left me soooo happy. Like I loved the beginning and momentarily lost interest around 25% but then 30% it did a 180 for me and I GOT SUCKED IN. Like it took me 10 to listen to the first 25% then I finished the remaining 75% in one sitting. I got so into it that I downloaded the ebook of it from my library so I could finish the last 2 chapters while watching a movie. The writing felt so authentic and just easy to read and the characters were all likeable yet flawed (like they felt like real people) and the just seeing my Latine heritage celebrated in a book (especially involving a Catholic school which traumatized my high school years) was UGHH SOOOO DELICIOUS.

Just like 10s across the board - good story, lovable characters, diverse representation, and all the emotions. Just call her Inside Out 3: My Gay Awakening.

Another thing I think the author did sooo well was portray multiple life lessons and reflective situations without it being preachy or overwhelming or messy. I feel like coming of age novels try to do so much sometimes and pack a million situations that teach lessons into one book but lose the point along the way. This book was able to tackle like difficult and deep shit like religion, r@cism (especially deportation and police brutality towards POC), social classes, hømophobia, and more. It can be hard to juggle all the messages you want to send in a book without it becoming jumbled up and I just think this author did that so well with that while still making a great story.

So I can’t speak on the lesbian representation accuracy, but I can say (as a Latina myself) that the Latine rep was so accurate. Especially as an eldest daughter in a Latine family cause like that’s a whole other level my dude. I know Reyes (the author) is latine but idk if they’re an eldest child cause so much of what was placed upon Yami from her family (and expectations and responsibilities she placed on herself) and thoughts and feels she had as an eldest Latina daughter hit the nail on the head for me.

The romance UGHHHH I WAS TEEHEE GIGGLING!!! I WAS HOLDING MY BREATH!!! I WAS CRYING!!!! Such a sweet and genuine blossoming romance with a love that helped a little Latina girl stand up for herself GOD SO GOOD😫

This has easily become one of my fave reads this year. So much heart and thoughtfulness throughout this story GET ME A SPECIAL EDITON HARDCOVER VERSION TO PUT ON MY SHELF NOW!!!!

Ok this last part is a bit spoilery & discusses sųicide so proceed with caution or don’t proceed at all:

So I had a feeling someone was going to be sųicidal before I read this book based on what some people told me. I always get a little hesitant to read anything relating to sųicide cause I was sųicidal not that long ago. I’m not going to get into it but just understand that I’m healing and I could feel fine one day then the next I’m very depressed so I just tend to stay away from the subject just in case. Honestly that could’ve been why I hit a momentary lull 25% in, because I could see Cesar start displaying signs. But I continued reading this anyway and I’m glad I did. The book was able to tackle this heavy subject with grace and honesty. It actually made a small portion of the book but left an impact in a positive way. I think Reyes especially handled the aftermath of hospitalization and the start of the healing journey sooo well. It’s a bit awkward but (with the right kind of support) it slowly starts. And some days are dark days even if the day started out well. I just really appreciated the honesty, rawness, and compassion toward the subject.

Did I read this book only because I loved season 3??? YES. Did I specifically buy the book with the tv show cover??? YES. Throw shade all you want but Miss Shonda Rhimes (and Nicola Caughlon and Luke Newton) is the only thing that could pull me out of my Bridgerton slumpification (I HATE READ™️ the first 3 books of the series). But my hateration of the Bridgerton books is OVER (for now, I have like 4 more books in the series) thanks to season 3 of Bridgerton (especially the carriage scene). The executives of Bridgerton knew that they could make money off of basic høes like me who would go out and buy the book after that CARRIAGE SCENE and are too impatient to wait a month to hear the rest of the story!!!!! I NEED MORE POLIN I CANT WAIT A MONTH. Does this make me a consumer? Probably. But I’m just a girl. A girl who loves simping men and regency smut.

So first off, Penelope is such a good character like so likeable and layered. She’s all down about lack of male attention but I’m just like GIRL YOU JUST WAIT YOURE GONNA GET YOUR VITAMIN D SOON sis.
Colin is def the most likeable and deep Bridgerton I have read about (thus far (and probably ever cause idk if I’ll read the rest of the series). He was YEARNING. He was OBSESSED. He was SMITTEN. And I ate it tf up. I think it was so sweet how the two grew to love each other from years of friendship. This whole book was just sweet and had some sexy shit. I’m sad we didn’t get a detailed play-by-play of the mirror fantasy but the fooling around scenes were delicious nonetheless. I just really liked this book so much more than the first 3 Bridgerton books. This felt organic and genuine and just so adorable. This just makes me love the show more and I’m interested in how the show will finish the second half of this book.
