Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee

A very solid conclusion to an already compelling & well-constructed fantasy series. While there are some minor issues with the pacing, what truly shines in Jade Legacy is the characterisation and the worldbuilding.

The compelling characterisation not only redeems intriguing characters to read about but also sheds lights on relationship dynamics - particularly the effects of different parenting styles & how one goes on with their personal decisions.

Whereas the worldbuilding in Green Bone Saga sets a stage for both the political intrigue and A-list interludes that connects the different storytellings into an expansive yet coherent body of work.

I deeply believe that fiction affects reality. In Jade Legacy the linkage between the story & real life issues are connected through the thematic development (i.e. the political tension, family differences, etc) conveyed throughout the course of the novel felt very real.

A little disclaimer: the books in Green Bone saga (including this book) contain pretty violent murder scenes at times, so this is something to be aware of if you aren't very into reading this type of stuff.

To wrap it up, if you could put up with some violent scenes. I highly recommend the entire Green Bone Saga. And in particular, Jade Legacy is both an ambitious and a satisfying finale of this amazing book series.

N.B. This book contains following content warnings: physical violence, weapon wielding, abuse, death, medical stuff, and loss of loved ones

This is an atmospheric and magical wintry tale to curl up during the Christmas season. The magical realism prose redeems The Snow Song a dreamy read.

While the prose is the forte of the book, I must admit that the plot isn't always very easy to follow through (so it took me a while to get to know the characters).

Despite my concerns with the ambiguous plot, I think this is a good story to pick up if you're into magic realism & are up to some seasonal readings.
