Unspoken by C.C. Hunter is the third novel in the Shadow Falls: After Dark series. Della Tsang is vampire and attends Shadow Falls Academy (school for supernaturals). In fact she is a Reborn (turned twice) and is now bonded to the infuriating and handsome Chase Tallman. Della, though, has a lot going on in her life (besides adjusting to being a vampire). Her father is accused of murdering his sister, Bao Yu (who is now a ghost and following Della). His blood was found on the knife that killed her (his twin brother faked his death when he became a vampire). Della is determined to clear her father’s name. At the same time her elderly neighbors the Chi’s were murdered in their jewelry store. Mrs. Chi’s ghost has come to Della for help (Della is a ghost magnet). Della believes she saw who killed the Chi’s. Since Della is unable to work on her father’s case (though she keeps trying), she works on solving the Chi’s murder. She will have her work cut out for her especially when the police get an anonymous tip that leads to Della.

Chase works on getting back into Della’s good graces (she keeps pushing him away despite her attraction to him). Chase quits his job with the Vampire Council and joins the FRU (Fallen Research Unit which is like the FBI). Della wants to become an agent and join the FRU when she graduates from high school. Burnett James (part owner of Shadow Falls—the school—as well as being a part of the FRU) is reluctant to accept Chase because he wants to protect Della (he is like a father to Della). Della wants to know that being with Chase is her choice and not because of the bond they share. Della also has not told her parents that she is a vampire. She is trying to hide it, but her father is treating her differently. Could her father, Chao Tsang, have figured out what Della has become?

There is a lot going on in Unspoken. It is an interesting book (and told from Chase’s and Della’s point of view) but it was difficult to read with the foul language, teenage angst, and Della’s constantly being angry. The book also includes teenage intimacy. It was difficult to get into this book, but it gets more interesting in the second half of the novel. I believe in order to understand everything that is happening in Unspoken, you need to read the first two books in the trilogy. I give Unspoken 3 out of 5 stars. It was an okay novel, but I did not really enjoy this book (I actually found it very frustrating). A love triangle for teenagers seems a little hard to believe as well as teenagers doing adults work (but then they still act like teenagers with temper tantrums, crying, and disobedience). I think the novel would have been better with adults instead of teenagers (and the teenage angst). I love vampire, witches, and other supernatural novels, but Unspoken just did not speak to me.

I received a complimentary copy of Unspoken from NetGalley (and the publisher) in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a very good book and I highly enjoyed it! C.C. Hunter brings us an exciting and thrilling conclusion to the series. This brings us the end of Della’s story and I couldn’t be happier about it! In my eyes I think Della chose the right guy!

Now Della’s main focus continues to be trying to clear her father’s name for the death of his sister so many years ago. The case has been reopened and he is the prime suspect. But Della knows in her heart that he did not kill her aunt, even if his cold and distant to her over the past few months after Della became a vampire. Then off course there is Chase, infuriating yet still very irresistible. No matter how hard Della tries to ignore her feelings she has growing for him, she can’t seem to win. Though her struggles are completely real and valid and I mean a person needs to TRUST and so far Chase has been lying to her most of the time in the other books. Also Chase says he loves her, but Della thinks it’s more about their bond, the one that makes them Reborns. She thinks her feelings for him might even be based off the bond. I mean how can you believe what’s in your heart if there’s something else that might be a ruling factor in the game?

To make thinks harder on Chase…. Steve came back from Paris. Della and Steve definitely have issues to work out. I always liked Steve but I also liked Chase. You started to see who she was leaning to long before Della knew herself. I’m not going to tell you who otherwise I’ll spoil it for you! There is a lot of build-up in this book trying to find out who the real killer was. And we know who the killer was from the get-go, they just needed to find him, I mean one who was very talented at staying hidden for such a long time! And don’t forget to mix in the new set of murders, one that makes Della’s investigating so much harder. Let me just say this book was fast paced. There was a lot to read but the pacing was just amazing with every step of this mystery will keep you eating up all these pages!

I loved to revisit the Shadow Falls. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Kylie and when we got a story of Della I was beyond happy! She is such a sassy character with great attitude. I’ve always loved that she says exactly what’s on her mind! I really want Miranda’s story. I mean Perry left in the start of Della’s story and now we just don’t know what might happen between Perry and Miranda. Anyway this was a perfect end to a great series. One more thing I loved the dual POV’S!

Update: DNF. I'm done with this shit. I knew it was coming but that doesn't make it any better. Chase is a lying, manipulative ass and I can't understand the appeal at all. I've seen rocks that are more attractive than him.
And another thing: lying is not hot or mysterious and just because a guy comes crawling back like a pathetic roach doesn't mean he's worth your time. Honestly.

Before reading:

I swear to God, if Della goes back to Chase, I am going to seriously hurt someone.

I loved the idea and premise of Shadow Falls. So cool but sadly the love triangle drags it down, even more so then with the first Shadow Falls series. We get Steve and Chase. Steve is okay but really career obsessed. Chase is a creepy, obsessive, jealous stalker. Both choices kind of sucked. I would of loved if at the end Della realized both guys sucked and didn't choose either. Sadly, that didn't happen she choose the creeper. Parts of this book were told through Chase's POV and that made him even more horrible! I just don't understand what people like about Chase and find so appealing about him.

What can I say about this book? That I absolutely loved it!

So this is the third and final installment in the Shadow Falls: After Dark trilogy, a spin-off from the original series Shadow Falls.

When I first started reading about Della's story in the original series, I knew that I wanted to know more and I was so excited when I found out that C.C. Hunter was making a spin-off to continue her story. We could finally get to see inside Della's head.

Well, lo-and-behold, we not only get Della we also get a very sexy and cute new addition, Chase Tallman. Personally, I love Chase. He has his faults, but who doesn't? And, of course, Della has the faults and personality to match.

They butt heads like crazy and Burnett always has some kind of hand in the crazy between these two, at least in trying to keep them a little calmer.

Now, as for how this book, was and how it affected me and everything in-between, I have this to say: The amount of twists and turns and just things thrown at you is enough to make your head spin. And, when I say that there are more than a few times you'll want to cry for Della, I'm not lying. I am in love with the ending to this book. I only wish that I had more books to read for the Shadow Falls Universe now.

Still here. Still miss you. Still love you.

I'm writing this review wit a crying and laughing eye, how you would say it in Germany. Unspoken was definitely the best book in the After Dark series, the most emotional, exciting, saddest and surprising one.

First of all, I repeat myself : I love Della. She is so so tough and fights for her dreams, although she is a broken hearted girl inside. However, thanks to the bonds in her life, she stands up and thought - no matter that others said.
One of these precious bonds is the one with Burnett. Kylie has Holiday, Della has Burnett. I just loved their funny interactions with each other and how much Burnett supported and protected Della. Even if it meant to breake rules.

I even felt that Della's story was a tick better than Kylie's. Her family drama was really really heart-breaking and the ghosts were .... uff, I got some cold shivers while reading.

As for the lovestory. I read some other reviews and know that many many readers hate Chase. The lying guy, the typical badboy. Well, this book is partly written in Chase pov and thanks to that I could understand him more. Yes, he is a typical badboy, a typical guy, but he loves Della. To my mind, he changed a lot from Reborn up to Unspoken. Thus, they fit each other perfectly, both stubborn :D

The only thing that actually annoyed me was the conclusion. The showdown of this book. Just like "Chosen at Nightfall (SF #5)" the conclusion was just too fast. It was even shorter! You know, I was waiting and waiting for the final showdown, it came, it was exciting and terryfing, but uff, ends.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy Unspoken a lot! I just have go give 5 stars
