Sorry, not for me, thanks.

Uhhhhhhh, probably one of my most singularly unpleasant reading experiences I can remember. I think this is the case of maybe just not being the target audience for this. Also, if one takes the "Liner Notes" from the back of the book at face value, the premise for this book, Eurovision but in Space, was bought by a literary agent sight unseen and then the author decided to write a wacko Douglas Adams style joint but with not real consideration for how Adams could structure a joke and how Adams knew, for the love of Christ, to stop a riff when the point had been made.

I also say I like prose styles that are not "realist" but this was just too much. Why use a modifier when you could use three? Why use a subordinate clause when you could use four? Why come up with an interesting original turn of phrase when you could just snowclone an existing one.?

While at times I struggled a bit to follow the book, I think that had more to do with my current difficulty focusing than the book itself. I found it just the right balance of silly and whimsical and heartfelt and genuine. It does give Hitchhiker's Guide vibes, but in a queer, musical rock band way.

I think this book would be accurately described as a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fanfic where humanity must compete for survival in a galactic Eurovision. Whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you.

For me, it was eh. The author seems to like music more and humanity less than I do. A rushed and strange ending knocked it down even more.

I am frustrated by how almost really good this book was.
