This is more of a 3.5 than a 3. I don't really like books in this genre, to begin with, so I have nothing to compare this to. But it's actually pretty good. It hooked me up from the very first chapter. Jaime's arc was my favorite. My only reservation is that all the perfect characters have tragic endings. They either end up dead *cough*Jaime*cough*David*cough*Banda or insane *cough*Tony*cough*. I suppose that's an unfair ridicule since Sheldon was showing us the brutal price of wealth and power. But all in all, it was surprisingly good. I'd like to read more of his novels.

I felt it was a bit stretched. Also, the ending was not so satisfactory. The initial plot was intense and thrilling. But towards the end, it loses the tightly bound effect and falls apart.

SIDNEY SHELDON, one of the most acclaimed authors, undoubtedly the way he writes a novel is remarkable, not every author has that ability to capture the interest of a reader. The reader keeps on turning the pages. The thriller, the suspense, the pace, the mystery and finally the twists, God, how masterfully he had written his novels. Only few authors have this art of writing a story, skilfully, cleverly, as well as descriptively... The way he describes the characters, their backgrounds, their strengths, their weaknesses, their way of thinking, and their desires, is mesmerizing. Moreover how he makes you travel places, and how he sets the plot as well as the plot twists.
My craze and hunt for thriller and mystery, all is rooted in his novels. My very first novel that I had read was by him. This novel amongst all of his novels is my favourite.
Who doesn't like to read a novel telling the story of FOUR GENERATIONS, which doesn't lag, doesn't make you feel bored and is steady paced?? The more intriguing thing is that it is written by SIDNEY SHELDON??
IT IS AN EXTRAORDINARY NOVEL, FULL OF TWISTS AND TURNS, it really grasps your attention, doesn't let you divert from it for even a moment.
Makes you question yourself, ' WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT? '
An intense thriller, a different type of romance, tragedy, dismay, astonishment and what not...
The most memorable novel ever for me.
A must read for all of the people who are in love with the genre of mystery, thriller, psychological thriller, suspense, romance and adventure!!!

Wow that book feels longer than it is (in a good way). It definitely is different compared to today's thrillers. The first 3 parts are really setting the stage for the anxiety inducing 4th part where the granddaughters come into play. Quite the long setup; however, it does pay off for me. And the ending is a bit different than what you typically get in modern thrillers. I definitely enjoyed the audiobook; however, the narrator wasn't great. She was adequate to where I could listen without being too distracted.

I remember reading this in college and loving it. I still remember the parts in the diamond mines.
