This is honestly one of the most compelling stories I've ever read. I couldn't stop reading this book, I finished it so quickly for what my reading capacity is like these days. I can understand why the parque had such a profound effect on Laura. I spent a single day at an elephant sanctuary in India and that was transformative. Although I absolutely never want to visit the parque! The jungle might actually kill me! I am really curious as to what impact Covid has had on the parque and worry for the future, as human induced climate change is making conditions worse. Right now as I post this, there's wildfires raging across Europe and London. Most people in my life are passionate about animals and the environment but it saddens me that not everyone is. It's so disheartening to see these big corporations who could make a difference just making things worse.

A love story with a puma. First hand real world experiences with the harms of climate change and out of control Capitalism. Inspiring story, great detail about experiences with animals. A little repetitive at times.

A fairly compelling read, heartbreaking - the realities of deforestation and the illegal wildlife trade are brutal - but it felt like an honest account of balancing what you so desperately want with grim actualities. It’s a good book. I looked up the centre after, and it gave another perspective. Would recommend.

A beautiful memoir that transports the reader to the jungle of Bolivia. Inspiring.

There were portions that had me hooked, and there were many that didn't. Slowly building the trope of "the girl who doesn't outdoors well" is tiring when you already know she'll likely end up as the largest advocate for everything she spends the first 10 chapters complaining about. Watching Wayra grow and evolve emotionally was encouraging, but I appreciate even more the inherent flaws that made her continuously relatable. This was definitely worth the read, but I'll likely leave it on the shelf
