A lovely, informative read that carefully follows citrus’ historical influence in Italy. It was slow, but certainly left an impression.  It left me wanting to harvest bergamot oil, float along the Riviera dei Cedri, eat a lemon slice salad in Amalfi, visit Ivrea and fight in the battle of oranges. I’m glad I read this, especially while on holiday in Sicily.

Really enjoyed reading about the history of the citrus fruits and by that way something about the history of Italy as well.

Slow pace, informative but can get tiring if read all at once.

I loved this book. As someone with a connection to Italy and an interest in horticulture - and a particular affection for all things citrus - it is admittedly right in my wheelhouse, but I think the book is so charming that it’s easy to enjoy even without a strong interest in the subject matter.

An interesting look at the history of citrus fruits in different regions of Italy. It includes the history of how/when various fruits were brought into Europe, but more interesting to me was more recent cultural and historical information.
