The fact that it took me such a disgusting amount of time to read this has nothing to do with how much I liked the book, or how well it was written. The fact that I was able to slog through it at all, while in the midst of an extreme book slump (lack of interest in any books I was picking up, for months) should really be a testimonial to how fantastic this book is.
Definite recommended read.

Theres a big difference between liking a book and loving a book :)
Story : This is a story about a man who is truly a phoenix...reborn by fire and in this rebirth he finds true love. This is not the conventional type of love, it's quite the opposite. This story blends reality with stories from the past, from different regions of the world but they were all about love.
Characters : So we have two leads, the phoenix (as I call him) and Marianne Engel. One was burned in a horrible accident and lived a very empty life until miss Marianne came into his life (possibly, again...depending on what you think) I have zero complains about character development because this book was about them and their development over time, over real time and fictional time. Their love was beautiful , odd but beautiful. He didn't even have a penis but she still loved him :3
Final Words : Throughout the book, I was wondering if what she was saying was true or not but by the end, I didn't care anymore and I don't think anyone should , because regardless if she somehow survived thousands of years or if she was crazy, she changed his life and this book impacted mine :)
10 out of 10.

I actually enjoyed this book. I was not sure if it was going to be something I would be interested in, but after someone gave me the book, I did enjoy it.

The concept of this novel is so original: a man ends up in a burn unit after carelessly drinking and driving. He is then visited by a mysterious woman who claims they fell in love back in the 14th century in Germany. This book will take you all the way to Iceland, Asia, and places in between. I really enjoyed not knowing what would come next. Great read.

I was still thinking about this one long after I was finished reading.

I appreciate the fact that it's secretly historical fiction and see parallels between the layering of different culture stories with Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Knock-out cover, and engrossing tale. I kind of wish they had made the mechanics of the essential mystery more explicit, but I think it's good not to as well. I can see a lot of work being put into this.

The Gargoyle is a story of a former porn actor, coke addict and a first time fourth degree burn victim whose soul was saved by a schizophrenic/manic depressive woman who believed herself to have been 700 years old. The entire book was told in a first person point of view of an unnamed character.
I can't seem to find the right words to described how unbelievably brilliant this novel was. It was as if I was reading multiple stories that connected in the end by Marianne Engel. It was a story of excess, giving up, hope, religion, love and tragedy. Although, some may argue that it wasn't a tragedy at all but salvation for this character.
I loved the way the author was able to switch point of views without confusion. It was written so well, so beyond words that I can't seem to grasp anything appropriate (and I'm not just saying this because the author is from my province!).
Five stars.

Woa, it was definitely not what I thought. Way better !
Read the first chapter, it will pull you in immediately. The writing is fantastic, very detailed but not overly done. The description of his his wreck, the burning and after makes you feel like your right there. A lot of stories within a story which makes it interesting and keeps you wondering where its going.
Highly recommend. Some detailed sexual reference.

i keep forgetting to add this book here despite the fact I think about it at least once a month
i read this in highschool for an independent study one year and it’s stuck with me since.
something about this story had me so hooked the whole time and i’ll absolutely be rereading it at some point soon to compare my thoughts and feelings from highschool to now, so stay tuned for that i guess

Bizarre, with some beautiful imagery and colourful writing. I'm a fan of the history, literature and religious references even if they become heavy handed. I enjoyed the Icelandic story the most and was surprisingly touched by it.
Marianne is written one dimensionally, the pace becomes halting at a few moments that really drag and the metaphors are in your face and come across YA like (which is fine, but pretentious when sprinkled between references to Dante)
But I really enjoyed it regardless of the flaws, a fun and touching romance.
