I’ve been a Patrick Swayze fan since I was a young girl. I remember watching “Dirty Dancing” at an age I had no bother doing so. My Barbie’s would reenact the final dance scene constantly. When the world lost Patrick they lost one of the best actors in the business, in my opinion. Reading this book completely solidified my feelings on that. This man was badass!!! Patrick and Lisa were married for 33 years and their love was beautiful. It’s mentioned in the book that they struggled with their marriage and almost ended things but chose to keep fighting. People these days are so quick to end their relationships and it makes me sad. Marriage isn’t a joke. Those vows you say at the alter need to be in the front of your mind at all times. Will you screw up? Yes. Will you two argue and have your differences? Most likely. But you should never just walk away without at least trying and BOTH people need to try. Patrick & Lisa’s marriage is one for the books. I’m so happy I read this book!

I had been wanting to read this since it came out and when I found the audiobook on sale, I couldn’t resist.

The Time of My Life is the story of Patrick Swayze’s journey through dance and acting, meeting his beautiful wife, the struggles and pain of repetitive injuries, and then the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

The journey through the life of Swayze, hearing about how he accomplished so much, persevered, set new goals and dreams despite the constant fear that his next injury could be the end.

The story was so personal and heartfelt, listening to husband and wife tell the story of their life, their own words and voice, reading letters from the past, traveling, working through fights and problems and coming out on the other side stronger than ever before. There was so much courage in their life that one can only hope to be as strong as they were and are.

Another abridged audiobook *sigh* On the other hand, I'm glad I didn't know this was abridged before I chose it, because I really loved hearing Patrick Swayze tell his own story. And it gives me an excuse to read the book again when I finally get my hands on it in hard copy.

Not being a die-hard Swayze fan (though absolutely a die-hard Dirty Dancing fan), there was so much I didn't know about him - how many physical challenges he faced and beat, his alcoholism, and the sheer number of projects he was involved in. And wow, talk about accomplished. I only wish I could have seen him in a musical theatre role.

One of the most compelling biographies I've read in a while - only four stars because I haven't read the complete version yet.

I love Patrick Swayze and listening to his book, his words, his voice brought it all alive. I laughed, cringed and cried. Excellent telling of his hard road to fame.

What a man, what a husband and what a life! Enjoyed his bio so much and hate thinking we will never get to see him again but at least we still have his movies. Miss you Patrick!

Like many women in this country, I was once a 12-year-old girl obsessed with the movie Dirty Dancing, so I was among those saddened by Patrick Swayze's pancreatic cancer diagnosis in early 2008. Whether you loved Dirty Dancing or any of his other movies, Swayze's fans can take heart in the book he and his wife decided to write during his illness.

Swayze's likability oozes out of every page. While a very successful person in many sport and dramatic ventures (nearly got a football scholarship, nearly went to the Olympics in gymnastics, and spent a few years as a professional ballet dancer in New York, in addition to his illustrious film career), Swayze never gloats over his success and instead admits to lots of hard work and help from many people along the way. The biggest helper along the way has been his wife, Lisa, and the story of their courtship is pretty adorable (originally she ignored him because he seemed like an arrogant flirt).

As the book moves into his film career, it's clear how much of themselves Lisa and Patrick put into the projects they were involved in (Lisa often worked behind the scenes and occasionally in bit parts in movies Patrick starred in). While Swayze became one of the biggest movie stars of the late '80s and early '90s, he still remained the hardworking dancer's kid from Texas. Anyone wanting to know more about the man who played Johnny Castle really must check out this heartfelt autobiography.
