The highest praise I can give to Sedated is that it took me a very long time to read. I kept getting so annoyed by the content ( TL:DR - It's Thatcher's fault. ) that I had to take breaks.
In fact, the only reason why it isn't rated even higher is that whilst Sedated is very well researched I feel like Davies lapsed into relying on anecdote one too many times. I understand the need to relate the situation to the human toll it enacts - especially when talking about how uncaring the system has become. I think that his case would be all the stronger if it could be always married with the broader statistical evidence.

Super fascinating and highly educational. Basically how and why the world fixed issues with drugs rather than the source, without saying drugs aren’t helpful or necessary, but that they’re not always (arguably often) the (only) solution.
Love interesting societal commentary type essays me (particularly atm apparently)

i definitely found myself disagreeing at a few points throughout the book but it was well written and explored the topic in a way that scratched the itch. also reminded me how kind of... useless antidepressants are?? maybe limited is a better word, but regardless we are Not progressing well in terms of mental health care and it's quite a grim situation

When I started this, it did seem to be fuelling some biases I already had about mental illness so I was cautious to keep an open mind but actually the book was so much more than that. Overall, I do share a similar opinion most of the time to the author so it would be interesting to read a counter arguments prospective however it is an opinion based on facts and research.
I found the entire thing very interesting, however, to keep my full attention it would needed to have been maybe 50 pages shorter as I found the last couple chapters and conclusion a bit of a slog as they were repetitive, the epiphanies had definitely ran out.
I would be careful who I recommend it to and who I told about as it talks about something that is very personal to a lot of people, in a very clinical and matter-of-fact way. But overall, not bad at all for £0.60 from the charity shop.
