3.5 stars. I liked the concept, but the execution came off a little hokey and shallow. I guess they thought the concept alone was enough to carry it. I liked the style and art though, and I'm interested to see where it goes in volume 2.

I found these comics at my local library today, and I pretty much fell in love just by the cover. I was a bit shocked that I had never heard of these before considering these are right up my alley. Plus Joelle Jones has been an artist in some of my favorite series.

But this is a such a classic indie comic that more people need to read or even hear about considering how fantastic it was. The art style was sharp and bloody but as soft as she was. Josie Schuller hasn't become a household name in terms of comic book characters yet which is such a shame since these came out in 2015.

I am quite excited to see where this story goes in terms of lore, which was a big lack of in this story. I haven't read the second vol yet, but that came out last year with the headline as 'The Lady Killer Is Back!' So I do hope we see more of her, and her killing habits.

Amazing art, perfect for story line. I couldn't wait to read this one. If there are more volumes my rating for the series will go most likely go up.

I started this one for #gettinggraphic and it was one that was recommended to me. It was amazing! I loved the whole mixing of the 1950s housewife and the assassins. It was a unique combination that I've never seen before. It was wonderful to read and the artwork was amazing. The main character is just a bad ass female character who balances life between being a mom and wife and a crazy killer. And for some reason she's able to make it seem so effortless. If you haven't checked this out I would definitely recommend it.

Positives

I think the concept of a 1950s housewife who moonlights as an assassin is entertaining and intriguing. The art style is also very fun for the time period. I especially enjoyed the classic ads (but with a twist). This collection is pretty self-contained, which I also appreciated.

Negatives

My perspective might be skewed by the foreword, but the feminism that underpins the work does feel very 2015. I appreciate that we have a woman who can “be an assassin like a man” or be violent like a man, but who genuinely cares for her children. I just wished we got to see more of Josephine interacting with and actually enjoying her normal life. For most of the collection, they are mostly distractions from her work or obstacles for getting her work done.

I love the art and the story line, looking forward to reading the second volume. I mean, cute 60's fashions colliding with a swingin' assassin storyline and a liberal dose of gore? Sign me up!
