This was a wonderful conclusion to the trilogy. In this series 5 people from 'our' world travel to Fionavar the first world. They think initially that it is to be part of a celebration but soon discover that they are called to play a part in the upcoming war. As the series unfolds and we arrive at the third book it is discovered that Maugrim has an overwhelming force to confront the force of Light. The travelers must pursue their destined paths to try and set the wheels in motion for victory against long odds.

The series has drawn upon many fantasy fan favorites like Tolkien, Arthurian legend and general mythology to build a beautiful world. It is a well written series and recommended for all fantasy fans.

I didn't hate this book, but i do have a whole bunch of issues with it. There were so many times i felt like banging my head against the wall. The one i want to bring up first though is the Arthurian love triangle. Just be a fucking triad! All three characters seem to be in love with each other, theres an easy answer to this... I also disliked pretty much everything to do with Darien, i found his character, and the way everyone treated him incredibly annoying. The last thing i found infuriating in these books was the roll of fate, i do not like the idea that everyone is just a pawn, and the one time someone has agency and goes against their fate it leads to death and destruction. Ugh

This is the last book in the trilogy and in some ways it is the simplest (which is not to say that it is simple). It is, after all, the tale of the final battle that all the rest of the tale has been leading us towards. There will be skirmishes and surprises and a final contest of epic proportions. There will be moments of heroism and cowardice, of tragedy and joy. And there will be deaths.

Kay neatly and seamlessly brings together the threads of his story and ties them off, one by one. This book will break your heart and will uplift you. It will remind you why you love all the old tales in all their old forms and all their new ones. This is a great story, well-written - read it. You won't be sorry.

Surprisingly disappointing after the thrill of the first two books - Kay's mixture of original fiction with the over-twisting and overly-stretched out Arthur Pendragon mythology all boiled down to a book that I mostly skimmed through to reach the ever out of reach ending.
