Might appeal to others, but most of the stories weren't that interesting to me. I'd rate the first third of the book 4 stars, the middle 3 stars & by the end she was just out of good material. I almost didn't finish as I began to scroll thru a few stories without any interest in reading them. I guess this author lost me at Spanx. Maybe if there weren't so many references to Spanx. It is a quick read & several of the recipes sound tempting to try. Perhaps some of her other books are better.

This book was very funny in spots and sometimes annoying.

I enjoyed this quite a lot! Sometimes books of essays try way too hard to be funny or quirky or self-deprecating but this hit all the right notes without seeming too forced. I liked how it seemed fairly realistic, in a "oh of course this ridiculous thing would only happen to me" sort of way. It also made me feel better about myself- both in a "oh thank god, someone else struggles with being an adult too" and "oh thank god, I've never done that before, maybe I'm a better adult than I give myself credit for" type of way. Laurie Notaro seems like a lot of fun and I can't wait to read more of her books in the future!

I randomly downloaded this on Hoopla because I wanted something funny to listen to while I cleaned my bathroom. (Odd choice considering the title.) It was fun. It made me smile if not lmao. The section of recipes maybe didn't transfer as well to the audio format but I loved the story about her getting petty about her leaf pile because I definitely identified with that. I might not re-read this one but I'll definitely pick up more by Notaro.
