For readers' advisors: Story doorway is primary, setting secondary. Some swearing & battles with a ghost/demon. Steamy sex scenes (heroine starts out a virgin but not demure or shy). Heroine's brother is gay, but that mostly serves as a plot device for why he's not interested in the vicar's sister his parents are trying to set him up with.
I enjoyed the story but wish the author had fleshed a few things out, such as where Reggie's ability to read thoughts and memories came from or its broader significance. I felt like more could/should have been done with that. Also, I'm still waiting for an explanation of how the MacAlasdair family can live in a small village without the locals being in on the secret. Villagers would be the first to notice if the noble family members didn't really age, even if they didn't figure out the part about shape shifting into dragons. Still, it's an interesting genre-blending series.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Colin is a bit of a rake, and finds himself in a ghost hunt. Reggie is quite the firecracker ... meeting Colin by climbing into his room by mistake ... she was shooting for her brother's room. She accidently finds Colin's true nature through her gift. Which made the book a lot of fun, as they tip-toe and dance around the fact that she knows.
I love Victorian-era specter/ghost hunting storylines, and this one was pretty interesting.

More like 4 1/2. Good characters and a good plot. I'm mad there is only one more. Shoot.

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca.
I have always loved paranormal historical romances...a mixture of my two favorite sub genres in romance, but I hate to say that I had a hard time with this one. There were some aspects that I enjoyed, aspects that was different and unique in a way that really pulls you in at the beginning, but when I got to the middle of the book, I really had to force my way through portions of it, because I did want to find out how these find their HEA. This author can be a hit or miss for me, and this story really felt off for me, and so I had a difficult time keeping my attention on the story, I felt like the consistency of the writing was a little off, and that threw me off kilter as I was reading. The story is pretty well set up and I enjoyed seeing the paranormal element mixed in with it, a element of not just a shifter dragon (who is sexy hot!) but also of haunting ghosts, as I was reading this I kept thinking that I wished that I had been able to read this during "All Hallows Eve" the theme of the story would have been perfect. I did like the characters, they added some fun elements to the plot, and they were the reason I wanted to keep going...I loved this pair and seeing them together was enchanting. Overall, even though the story didn't fully meet my expectations, there were many exciting and sensual moment that were engaging, with paranormal twists and turns....STUNNING!

Despite an evil ghost, this one felt more fun and lighthearted. And is it weird that I'd like to read Edmund ' s story and see him settled with a man of his own? Maybe a supernatural?

Ignore the cover art. And the title. Yes, the hero is a highland dragon, but think Loki more than Thor. The heroine drives her own car (a Benz Velo), has bohemian friends, and has psychic powers. The setting is a late Victorian house party, complete with spiritualists and a malicious ghost. There are a couple of sex scenes, but they're not super graphic. The hero and heroine talk and laugh with each other, are honest with each other (no Big Mis here), and believably grow to care about each other. The ending is arguably either a HEA or a HFN depending on how you want to look at it -- I want to look at it from the perspective of reading about them in the next book.

Decent writing, a conceit I’ve not run across before, and double agency. I’ll look for her other stuff. It’s not amazing, but I needed a break and it wasn’t fluff either.
