My review at age 13:
"Elle’s bimboishness makes this book really funny =)"
I actually still quite like this book. I stopped reading chick-lit a few years ago but sometimes when I'm feeling down I pick this book up and read it. It never fails to make me smile. I saw the film a while back and it didn't do the book justice. Elle's character grows and changes throughout the book, but this is barely touched on in the movie. This book isn't just stupid, bimbo-y chick-lit (as my 13-year-old self's review suggests) - it's actually quite funny and touching.

Okay I really wanted to finish this, but this book is boring me to death and I have other books I want to read and I don't want to feel guilty by still seeing this book on the 'currently reading' shelf after four months. So I'm putting this on DNF.
And I hate that, because the thing is: Legally Blonde is one of my all time favourite movies. It just makes me happy and, as a law student, it sure has helped me get motivated to study a lot of times (gotta make Elle Woods proud!).

This book however, is so much different than the movie. I was about halfway through, and really nothing has happened yet. It starts the same as in the movie, with Elle going to law school to get her boyfriend back, but, besides the murder case, that's about it. At 50%, Elle is still crying and complaining about Werner and character development? Nowhere to be seen.
I also just really miss the movie characters. There's no Paulette, no dog to save, no UPS guy, NO EMMETT(!!), and Vivian is named Sarah in the book (I can live with that though). The whole book just doesn't work for me, as it doesn't give me the same feelings as the movie does.
So, I'm sorry, book-Elle Woods, I really wanted to love you as much as I love movie-Elle Woods, but this is where we split ways. Good work at Stanford though, I'm sure you'll get there in the end.

Nowhere near as good as the movie or Broadway show, sadly. I didn't like how long it took Elle to see the value in herself. Also I miss Paulette.

I love this movie—but the book, eh. Elle isn’t the same. She literally spends the whole book trying to get Warner back not realizing her own worth literally until her big court room scene. It’s a rare case of enjoying the movie over the book.

I thought I’d love it, but most of the elements I enjoyed about the movie were missing.
Elle spends the whole book pining after Warner, then decided at the last minute that he’s not worth her time. Where is the growth and character arc?
We don’t see the smart side to Elle. She’s not a sympathetic character at all. I enjoy her confidence and style, and that’s about all. The Elle in the film is layered, vulnerable yet strong, adorably ditzy yet extremely smart. Book Elle is spoiled and pampered, and frankly a little selfish. Somehow she sails through the LSATs but skips most of her classes when she gets there.
Emmet and Paulette are highlights of the film, but they do not feature in the book. The dog is cute though.

I remember enjoying this as a teenager but wow it is terrible, only saving grace is the association with Reese Witherspoon’s charming performance.
It’s meandering and no one is fleshed out very well.

One of those rare, "The movie was way better than the book," deals. It's pretty much like the character Elle wrote this book, except it's nonfiction. Kudos to whoever saw a great movie concept.

I don't mean to be a hater, but if you're considering reading this because you loved the movie, you'll probably be severely disappointed. One of the RARE times where the movie is better. (I do, however, recommend the musical. ;) )
