The premise of this book sounded promising; a family’s estranged father dies, and in order to inherit their share of his will they have to stay at his estate for 30 days with no contact to the outside world. The story took a completely different path than what I was expecting however, and the majority of the time I was left feeling confused and bored. I can appreciate the writing style, and understand why some people may love this book. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me.

I got 80% through the book and I just couldn't push myself further. I wasn't enjoying the book enough to want to find out what happened at the end. I think I was most disappointed with the bait and switch. The book was promising one thing while delivering something else entirely.

Okay this was a TRIP to read - SO MANY unanswered questions by the end of this book that I felt were just barely touched on. The mystery was pretty cool but man, I wish there was more closure.

2.5 Stars (Normally, I would round my stars up but for this book, I had to round down)
I really enjoyed the idea of this story. However, the execution wasn’t done well. Also, I could not stand how it was written. I was rolling my eyes at some of the things characters would say to each other. Didn’t feel like things normal people would say. Rather disappointed.

Holy fuuuuuuuck this book.
A whole new take on “family goes to will reading” trope.
I love it, the last half of the book had me in a death grip that I couldn’t put it down.
Although….not gonna lie….the services offered here I would be tempted to use

The Homecoming

5.0 / 5.0
From the start, ´The Homecoming´ made me anxious. Tense. Raymond Quinlan always told several of his children tales of a castle called Belfountain; surrounded by a dense forest with strange creatures roaming the grounds. When Raymond died, he sent a car to take his family to a place ¨necessarily confidential¨ to meet a ¨representative¨ of his estate-Belfountain. As the family members one by one arrive, they are told that they will inherit equal amounts of his estate-about 7 millions each. With one stipulation. They must all live together in Belfountain for 30 days. No internet, cell phones, television, radio, newspapers or books.
Belfountain is an eerie and disturbing place, that only gets weirder as its secrets are revealed......like a second group of people arrive at the estate claiming to be the Quinlan family. As we learn more about the legacy of the estate, the history of these families, a sudden twist changes everything and will surprise you......you will become even more anxious at the disturbing and shocking ending.
Strange and unsettling, this chills to the bone. Masterfully written, the flow and development make this an excellent and unforgettable and unforgiving horror novel.
Thanks to Simon and Schuster/Canada and Netgalley for this e-book ARC for a fair and honest review.

I was really into it for the first half, maybe 3/4, then it took a direction I was not expecting and happy with. It was still imaginative and good for its genre, but that the book did not fit what I expected from it was what disappointed me. So not really the book's fault, but my expectations.
A good thriller, don't read it when you are out camping or at the cottage!

The novel opens feeling just textbook creepy, but once Pyper has his hooks in you, the story lurches into terrifyingly unimaginable places. I hate overdone horror. This is not that. Pyper builds slowly then hands you a wallop. I will read ANYTHING Andrew Pyper writes. He's that good.
