Review for when I re-read it in 2013:

I have read this book many times over the years. And I keep loving it.

Every story begins with a prologue, a character (always a kid), special circumstances and a story teller (mostly a creepy character or someone who deals in creepiness).

Throughout the stories there are pauzes were the main character and the story teller talk, what they think of the story or other things.

I love it. This book in particular, it is very very creepy. Some stories are also quite scary (or gross), but they all deliver. Unlike some short story books, were some stories are boring and some are fun, this one has only good ones. :)

From kids with a scary greenery, to a mysterious burrow in a field to all kinds of other settings.

Really recommended to those with a strong stomach, who like horror stories, are fan of Chris Priestley, and those who like short stories.

And just like that, I'm shooketh once again!

I love these books...they're just the right amount of creepy!

Protože jsem četla první díl, Příšerné příběhy strýce Montague, neodolala jsem a půjčila si v knihovně i druhý. Samozřejmě jsem hrozně lekavý člověk, a jelikož jsem zapoměla jaký byl první díl, málem jsem u druhého zešílela strachy.
Během čtení knížky jsem se uklidňovala, že je to jenom příběh, vlastně příběhy. Ale Priestley to umí vystihnout tak hororově, že to nějak nefungovalo. Nahánělo mi to strach, jak jednotlivé příběhy, tak i to, co se dělo mezi nimi...a na konci mi při několika posledních stránkách začalo pomalu začalo docházet, jak to asi dopadne. A po dočtení jsem zjistila, že autor musel mít knihu opravdu promyšlenou, protože konec parádně navazoval na začátek.
Ode dneška už se bojím dojít si na kadibudku (jsme na chatě), protože se děsím každého kouta, že z něj vybafne krutý skřet z Vyřezávaného zubu. A když jsem viděla normálního zahradního šneka, málem jsem se zbláznila, protože mě vyděsil, samozřejmě jen díky jedné povídce s názvem Příroda.
U těchto povídek nikdy nevíte, jak to dopadne. Výhoda i nevýhoda...netuším. Kniha je ale doplněná skvělými ilustracemi. Dokonalé.
Každopádně vřelé doporučení všem duším, jak se smyslem pro humor i strach.
A těším se až si přečtu Příšerné příběhy z temného tunelu!

Hat mir um einiges besser gefallen als der Vorgänger ([b:Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror|1900124|Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror|Chris Priestley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317065314s/1900124.jpg|2047392]). Die Rahmenhandlung war nicht so klischeehaft (Onkel erzählt Gruselgeschichten) und die Kurzgeschichten selbst hatten viel bessere Enden.
Der Stil passt zum Buch, wirkt ein wenig altbacken und hat mich daher ab und zu gelangweilt. Die Ideen für die Geschichten sind aber alle ziemlich cool und die Zeichnungen von David Roberts sind wieder absolute Highlights.

Insgesamt Tendenz zu 4 Sternen, also 3.5 :)

Siblings Ethan and Cathy are ill so their father braves a strong storm to find the town doctor. Meanwhile, Ethan and Cathy recover, but the storm rages and their father is late returning. A knock is heard at the door of the tavern and they allow in Thackeray, a sailor caught in the gale, who has a knack for telling scary stories. Ethan and Cathy enjoy the stories (although Ethan is wary of the stranger), while little by little Thackeray reveals pieces of his story.

The stories are page-turners.

Grades 6-8.
