I thought this manga did a great job of capturing the mischievous and strange spirit that is at the center of the game. The pace is frantic throughout, but that fits perfectly with the urgency of Link's quest.

All that being said, the time travel that is so central to the game is paid relatively little attention and the Ikana Canyon chapter is entirely skipped over (with the exception of the boss fight).

This is a fun little book! I read the Legendary Edition, and it was my first experience with manga. I figured reading a story I already know and love would be a good way to get introduced to the genre. It's really cool seeing all my favourite Zelda characters come to life, and to see a side of Link that we don't get to see in the games: his voice. Link is actually a real character in this book, not just a reflection of the player!

Because Zelda games--Majora's Mask included--are mainly based around action, puzzles, and dungeon-crawling, they had to take some liberties with the story. This usually involved working the boss of every dungeon into the pre-dungeon events. This worked pretty well mostly of the time, but it also made things move too quickly sometimes, making it hard to follow. The biggest sin was when they condensed the entire fourth section of the game (Ikana Castle and Stone Tower Temple) into two pages. It comes out of nowhere, and it skips over one of the most emotional scenes in the game! However, most of the story cuts were understandable, as there's a ton of content in the game.

Interestingly, the translation to English didn't see the same political changes as did the game translations. Namely, the Skull Kid is still called a demon, rather than an imp, and he's still got blackface, rather than a scarecrow face. There may be some other translation differences, but I couldn't tell.

There's also a bonus story at the end that offers some very interesting information, but I won't spoil it. Just let it be known that the bonus story is definitely worth reading.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this manga. It was a way to interact with my favourite game of all time in a completely new way. However, the plot cuts impacted the flow of the story and sometimes made it confusing. I'll definitely check out the other Zelda mangas.

A nice, albeit somewhat hurried and overly condensed adaptation of the video game cult-classic. The art style is excellent and does good justice to the style of the original game. The game is, by its time-traveling, repetitive nature, a hard thing to adapt for a linear narrative, but the two artists behind this adaptation have done a good job, although some conspicuous «shortcuts» have been made in the process. The «original side story» at the end of the book deserves a special mention. It is totally separate from the main narrative, but a fascinating little ditty in its own right. All in all, a nice adaptation, albeit at some remove from the original game. And hey -- listen! Link speaks (!)

I just didn’t love it. Doesn’t have the depth of the game.

Auch ich muss mich den vielen vorigen Kommentaren anschließen, dass eindeutig zu viel der Geschichte ausgelassen wurde. Man hätte eindeutig mindestens zwei Teile machen sollen. Ansonsten super, die Zeichnungen sind richtig schön und oft komplett identisch mit gewissen Szenen vom Spiel.

I'm not entirely sure that I played Majora's Mask through to completion. Some things seemed familiar to me and some didn't. Nonetheless, another great little installment to the series!

We don't know what's happened to Navi, but Link meets two new fairies and a few other characters as well. I've said it before, I think, but I love seeing Link's personality. In the games you just don't get much more than a stoic sort of character, but here you get funny, brave, sweet, sad & everything in between.
