Nicholas Sparks has a unique talent, his stories are so engaging whilst simultaneously will break your heart. His characters are written in such a realistic way, even when they are going through the most extraordinary of circumstances (think the twist near the end of Safe Haven as a prime example!) There’s no wonder so many of his stories have been turned into movies now. He is a writer that you will always return to once you become a fan of his.
The two main twists here may have felt a little predictable but they made perfect sense and were heart-wrenching.
The Wish is told between the past (1996) and the present (2019).
Maggie is a famous photographer who has her own gallery, she is also online famous for making videos about her journey after being tragically diagnosed with cancer in her mid-thirties. She finds out she is terminal, heartbreakingly only has a few months left to live at most. So she starts telling her life-story to a new employee of hers, Mark.
Maggie details how in the mid-nineties, she was sent away by her parents to live with her Aunty in the coastal town of Ocracoke. The reason being she was fifteen, turning sixteen, years old and pregnant.
Upon her arrival, she meets a young man called Bryce and quickly falls in love. But will he be accepting of her pregnancy? Plus, she is planning to move back home after a few months in Ocracoke!
The plan is also to give up her child for adoption. Did she end up going through with this and, if so, could she end up being reunited with them before her inevitable, untimely, passing?
All the feels. All the tears. 5 Stars

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read…however, it was definitely cheesy and predictable.

3.75 star. Could have been a 4 star but it was pretty predictable. The description of this book read that it is a Christmas story but it is not, except for the setting being in NYC during Christmas. Trigger warnings - cancer and teen pregnancy. Both of these themes are woven throughout the entire story. It was touching but it did not make me cry. This is not your light, easy, Christmas read. I did enjoy it and plot kept me interested. I read most of it on my kindle and listened to the audiobook while working on things around the house. The audiobook was great and I would recommend it.
