This comic had generally weak art and dialogue/ villain motivations. It tried some philosophy, but I found the attempt vapid.

It's not often that the new Marvel canon novels or comics have completely swung and missed. This book is unfortunately one of those cases.
Frankly, the epilogue and a short flashback to Windu's apprenticeship are far more interesting than 90% of the comic. It just leads to a story that pales in comparison to the standards set by Soule or Gillon. What makes it worse is that Windu and a Clone Wars era story are ripe for the picking. Instead, we get a straight-up Clone Wars episode that ultimately conveys very little.

Spring 2020;
I wanted to like this one a lot more than I did. Abou 1/3rd of it had me incredibly enraptured by the first trilogy debate of the Jedi Order going from peaceful advocates to the men and women who would become Generals of the Separatist/Clone War. It's such an interesting concept to watch any number of them arguing and figuring out within themselves.

This was okay but the story didn't really excite me. I found the art a bit bland, and sometimes the action was tricky to make out. There were some amusing lines of dialogue from side characters, and we briefly see padawan Windu, but this trade paperback can easily be skipped.

I think I would have liked this a lot more as a three-episode arc of Clone Wars. The dialogue was weird and I really wasn’t a fan of the art.

Mace Windu is an evil character.
He is a blind zealot, absolutist, violent, and full of rage. He is self-centered, unforgiving, and does not accept other views of the Jedi mission. He rejects the Living Force.
In this trade paperback, he has no character growth. Zero. He was the same as a Padawan. In fact, he has negative character growth in Episode III.
Overall, this is 3/5 because Prosset Dibs is badass. He is absolutely correct in his views on Jedi philosophy and Mace as a person. The future Tenth Brother stands up for peace and his convictions while Kit Fisto stands there and lets Mace be a bully.
Glad I read this to confirm my hatred of this character. He is the true Dark Lord of the prequels. His religious views led to the fall of the warmongering Jedi Order.

I was a bit baffled why they’d drop a Mace Windu miniseries at a time when there was no promotion to be made for any prequel-related big release. When I checked the release dates of the initial issues, it made a little more sense: summer to winter 2017 – the run-up to The Last Jedi.
Besides Windu and a Jedi strike team being deployed to some generic early Clone Wars mission, the big conflict is one of said strike team mutinying on Mace and laying out why he believes the Jedi lost their way and became tools to the Republic’s political goals.
That’s a little slicker than I thought, usually it’s just “promo comic featuring character or setting from movie,” this one was “promo comic featuring themes from upcoming movie”. Pretty galaxy brained for SW!
Unfortunately, while proficient enough in the telling, it’s nothing that wasn’t covered already in Charles Soule’s Obi-Wan and Anakin mini. I guess the mercenary droid and his exasperation with the baby brain battle droids were pretty amusing.
Props for the ugliest fucking Yoda I have ever seen tho. I guffawed at that motherfucker.

I really did not like this. Boring, muddled art and a story that went nowhere.
