it was okay but v juvenile. typical tropes in rh academy book. very paranormal slice of life so far. 

the romance between the fmc and the second mate was so rushed. the first mate and her being friends was cute. also there are ways to flirt other than being like “i’m so hard/wet” all the time. it just added to juvenile feel to the book. 

mmcs physical appearances kept changing. now i’m so confused i don’t who is who physically. 

i’ll give the next book a go and see if it’s for me.

the book starts off with the mfc being annoyed that a guy she slept with wouldn’t leave and turns out he needs medical attention. however when she has a one night stand with one of the mmc and he leaves in morning she’s mad at him. uhm okay? it’s okay when she does it but not the other way around? 

the mfc character said she swears like a sailor but then says fluffy fudge something something instead of fuck. idk it was exactly bec it was so ridiculous i erased it from my brain despite her saying it three time.

also this book is so short i don’t think i’ll get satisfying romance.

maeve is so confusing… actually all the main characters are. what do you mean y’all just walked into cruinn with no back up? ate the food after she was poisoned in book one? trusted elaine? idk if i want to root for ppl who don’t think. i find the world fascinating and i want to know more but with characters like this and lacklustre romances it’s just not it. also slow burn does not mean no burn. i feel like i’m being told they connecting but i don’t see it.

the writing is repetitive which is annoying. i don’t need maeve to repeat how her life was before, how her uncle rules and liked and how things are in general all the time. in the beginning sure since ppl might forget the details in between books but several times in one book is too much.

i probably will cont if i remember but i’m not actively waiting for the next book.

maeva is all over the place. i get that it’s their destiny to be together but the girl is giving me a head ache with her flip flopping behaviour. she sleeps with them and will be like oh i’ll never forgive them. uhm okay… then she’ll hug them. ahh…sure? then she lashes out again… i wish she had some conviction in her decisions so i as a reader could respect her. even if i think being with ppl that tortured you and killed your ppl is a no no at least choose something! i want to root for her but i don’t know what i’m rooting for. also she’s kind of not the brightest. if these guys are telling her their mates and she literally sees their markings why is she not catching on? like girl keep up!

the guys are cardboard cutouts of characteristics. i’m not a fan of men povs but in this case it would’ve helped imo.

the romance is trying to give “oh it not the mate bond it you that i love” but it’s not. she spent like two weeks with the guys and they are waxing poetic about each other. v romeo and juliet of them which sense which it’s inspired from that. the smut kinda feels jarring ngl. 

the world building is very vague which i think is style of the author. i felt the same way about the other books

i enjoyed this but i wish we had more details. like is the rest of world just ignoring this world? do human live here? stuff like that

the romance i weird. by the time i saw mfc hooking up with some of the guys i was like huh? hope it gets better!

it’s good but i’m not in the mood for an omegaverse right now

i just found out that this series is not finished. this is so dark that i need to be finished or i’ll be sitting darkness for a while. it seems like the author hasn’t touch it since 2020 so i’m stopping here.

otherwise i found it to be interesting. i have so many unanswered questions but it is what it is. also i wish the way ppl looked was described more.

i’m kind of confused but in a i’m probably going to get answers eventually way. the only gripe so far is the horny behaviour around a sex trafficked kid and the way they talk is of some times.

i write a scathing essay length review about why i hated this but i don’t think i want that level of anger out there.

basically it boils down a lot of inconsistencies the horrible romance and hating all the characters except liv.

the sad part is i really really really wanted to like this which is why i was not harsh in my first book review.  the fact that i finished it is proof i wanted it to work for me when it wasn’t working for me way before the half way mark. writing a book is hard and kudos for the author for doing so but this was not it for me.

tbh i forgot the characters name and look and it freaked me out a bit
