This book was recommended to me by my mom and it is definitely a mom book. Not one I would’ve picked for myself, but glad to enjoy something my mom enjoyed and found the historical background actually really fascinating.
The main characters were both really annoying and I think I probably would talk shit about them to my friends after interacting with them if they were real.
recommended to me by my cousin who is a portland native :) overall, it was charming and enjoyable. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s sweet and fun, and that’s okay! First hundred pages or so I couldn’t really get a grasp on the tone, but it figured it out and I had a good and cutie time. The illustrations add so, so much. They’re my favorite part for sure.
a lot sadder than i thought it would be. pretty heart wrenching actually. i guess i will expect to be confusingly sad when i really TJR books now! really loved it tho
I know I said the last Kay Scarpetta book was the best so far but this one beats it by a landslide. It was pretty disorienting to learn about Mark’s death that occurred in between books (I guess?) but after that jarring start the mystery was tight and so complex and fun to read through. I was SO GLAD that the mystery wasn’t solved by someone breaking into Kay’s house or something like that, because that was getting really old. She was just good at her job and I feel like her relationships with Benton/Marino/Lucy were really compelling. I cant wait to see where her career goes next and I’m fired up about Patricia Cornwell’s writing getting better and better with each book.
1) i am not in the right headspace to read this book and 2) i kind of hate this guy (probably has to do with the headspace thing from 1, i’m not in a place to be self reflective about it tho)
