Nikki & Deja by Karen English

I literally read this in about 45min - 1 hour. It was cute and short. I mainly read it because I was looking for children's chapter books that contained a main character that was black. The story was cute and something that would happen to many little girls; however, I wanted more of a resolution int the end. I might pick up the rest of the books from the library in the future.
Only the Mountains Do Not Move: A Maasai Story of Culture and Conservation by Jan Reynolds
3.0
Okay so here's what I liked about the book:
-The photographs were brilliant. I love looking at photographs of people from different cultures and different parts of the world.
-I have heard of the Maasai before, but I did not know so much about their culture practices.
-This is a good book for individuals who are beginning to learn about various aspects of the cultures in Eastern Africa.
-It is an easy read. It only took me about 25 minutes to read.
-I loved how the book incorporated the environmental issues associated with the Maasai. They have so much going on and they have to adjust to a new way of life.
What I didn't like:
-I wanted more information, but I suspect that's because this was written more children and not adults.
-I think it watered down some information related to the Maasai and their cultural practices.
Overall it was a good introduction to the Maasai and I definitely will be interested in checking out more information and books related to them.

Beautiful beautiful and I mean truly a work of art. It was amazing to watch and see the growth of these two families through so many generations. And it made me more inclined to learn more about my family's history. It was so rich in culture and history it amazed me. Every generation backdrop felt so researched that I felt like i was actually there. The craft of this novel just left me speechless and I'm so shocked that this is her first novel and I can't wait to see what she does in the future. A full review will definitely be done on this book.
The Monkey Goes Bananas by C. P. Bloom

This book was cute and somewhat funny. I loved the artwork, but it did leave me wanting more from the story. To my understanding there are more of these books so I'll probably be checking them out soon.
Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle
4.0
Let me start by saying that I'm going to love Eric Carle simply because of his artwork alone. However, this was the cutest story and he did a wonderful job at illustrating how dads have a role in taking care of their kids and that even in some species they are responsible for carrying the egg and making sure they hatch the right way. He did it in such a smooth manner that I didn't realize what was going on until closer towards the end.
Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

It's a classic and that's all I can really say about it! I read this countless times when I was younger, but I enjoyed even more now that I'm an adult.
The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle
4.0
I just really loved the format of this book. It was totally and completely fascinating. I'm not a huge fan of spiders, but I loved that the spider was focused on her task at hand and getting her work done. The incorporation of animal sounds was definitely good for children who are just beginning to learn what animals do and what they sound like.
Do You Want to Be My Friend? by Eric Carle
3.0
I like the images for this book; however, there wasn't much to go off of. I think that this was definitely meant for younger kids to guess the animal on the next page based on the tails they see. It probably would be a great read a loud.
Rooster's Off to See the World by Eric Carle
4.0
This was beautiful and colorful and I absolutely loved how much detail went into the drawing of the characters. Rooster definitely learns his lesson about straying to far from home with no plan, goals, or sense of ambition. haha It was a cute story and most definitely one that I would read again.
A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle

This was cute and I liked that the hermit crab basically utilized all his friends to make his home more comfortable; however, it wasn't my favorite by Eric Carle.
