#Nerd by Cambria Hebert
3.0
This book was a kindle book that I received for free through amazon. I've never heard of the series prior to getting it but I was definitely in the mood for some new adult. I will definitely start by saying that the books is grossly predictable. You have a stereotypical nerd that ends up tutoring the stereotypical jock who is trying to pledge a fraternity. Of course the whole book surrounds them becoming friends and eventually falling in love while facing some challenges. At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy the book at all however it kind of grew on me by the end. There were some issues but there were also some aspects of the boom that I readily enjoyed. I have a full review written which I will upload on here once it goes live on my blog.
Sister, Sister by Eric Jerome Dickey

This was my first experience with Eric Jerome Dickey and I must say it won’t be my last. This book specifically focuses on three women who are linked in a variety of ways including the fact that all three have had their heart broken. I listened to this book on audio and it made the experience really fascinating and interesting. I’m still amazed that a man was able to write with such thorough accuracy about the experiences of women. This book takes the reader on a roller coaster ride as the three main characters attempt to find independence, love, and confidence after finding that appearances aren’t always what they appear to be.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
3.0
This was such an interesting experience. Like I've stated in most of my updates, I've never read the original classic tale of the Wizard of Oz. Sure I've seen the adaptations in books and movies, but I've never even thought about the original text. I was super excited to get to this book and count it as one my classics for the year. I must say there were a lot of different things in this book that frequently get left out in the movies or book adaptations. I found the writing easy to follow and the narrator interesting; however, I did find that Dorothy is quite naive. She has the solutions to a lot of her problems but for some reason she can't seem to really figure anything out. One of the most interesting parts of this book was the fact that I realized how much time Dorothy actually spent with the Wicked Witch of the West. Most people have no idea that she was actually kept captive for a little while. I always assumed that Dorothy just kind of kills her, but there's more to it than that. Overall, I think it's a great children's classic and I enjoyed it for the most part. I'm interested in continuing the series but I haven't decided when I'll pick it up.
Upside-Down Magic by Emily Jenkins, Lauren Myracle, Sarah Mlynowski

This was such an adorable book that deals with issues of fitting in. I'm so glad that I took the opportunity to actually listen to it on audiobook. It's great for kids who are having problems fitting in or so desperately want to fit in with everyone else around them. The main character was adorable and it was great to see how much she learned about herself towards the end of the book. I think this is a great series for children who are interested in magic or prefer books that take place at magical schools. Some of the writing was problematic for me especially looking at the naivety of the main characters; however, I do recognize the audience it is written for and I think it would be a great choice for those who are interested.
Animal Farm by George Orwell

This is such a complex and scary novel. Yes, I do mean scary but in a non conventional way. I originally read this book in high school but decided to give it a re-read because I didn't really remember much of the book except that the pigs were evil. I was definitely excited about diving into the contents of the book and immediately checked it out on audio. Let me tell you something. I was absolutely shaken by the contents of this book.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

Wow just wow. I don't even have the words to describe this book at the moment. I'm definitely going to have to get my thoughts together. Just know that I annotated the entire book and I have so much to say. This is definitely a must read. I can understand why some people didn't like it, but you just have keep pushing with this one and give it a chance. I'm speechless. And trust me that doesn't happen often.

This book was completely and utterly as amazing as the first time that I read it. I really really enjoyed reading and cannot wait to get into the other books including the novella Mitosis. This just made me super excited for Calamity coming next month! I definitely will have a full review on blog posted very soon.

The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

This was a cute contemporary but I always have difficulty reading books that have issues that could have been easily prevented since the beginning of the story. For example nothing in this book would have happened if Gia just didn't lie. I also had issues with the "growth" she made at the end of the book. While it's great that she learned the error of her ways I really don't think that anyone makes a change that quickly. Overall the book was ok. I found the writing to be simplistic and easy to follow and it was a decent enough book for me to want to check out some other stuff my Kasie West.
Heavy Vinyl: Riot on the Radio by Nina Vakueva, Carly Usdin

This was such a cute comic with badass females and LGBT representation. I absolutely loved it. I was amazed by the plot line and the character development. The story was so easy to follow and it definitely kept my attention the entire time. I LOVED it. I can't wait until the second volume is released and I get the opportunity to see where the story goes. This is also a comic that takes place during the 90s so there is a lot of pop culture references that I loved. If you haven't read this comic definitely give it a try.
