Very few things in life are as satisfying as a sequel that lives up to its predecessor; and that’s what makes stories like this one worth waiting for🖤

Fury is a fever dream and while I did get confused and am sure I missed some of the intricacies along the way, I absolutely loved the journey Clyo Mendoza took me on.  This is a book I will again and an author that I’ll keep on my radar; I can’t wait to see what she does next.

5 stars for the horror, the plot, and the overall message of this story with a slight reduction for the quick ending and a couple writing choices that weren’t my cup of tea.

Listen, imo this is a very complex book. It has beautiful, descriptive writing that pulled me in and the characters are fascinating. It explores love, sex, obsession, pride, success, failure, hate, and manipulation. It made me laugh out loud, pissed me off, made me cringe, and yet at the end I was smiling. I could delve into the whole psychology of it for hours.

Alas, I am lazy. So here’s a very surface level journey through my reading experience.  Beware of spoilers from this point on!

Can’t get into this.
Huge balls-gross🤢
Oh it’s funny😅
Getting a little bored.
Good for Florentino getting out there.
Awww, the dr and Fermina are a sweet love story💕
Dr died how? Rolling😂
Fermina is a female Mr Darcy.
Kinda love Florentino, but in a cringey way.
Fuck the dr and the weird talk around race in this book🖕
Good for Fermina leaving for 2 years👏
Florentino is def the right choice for her.
Yikes he’s a pedo😳

A solid collection of horror-esque stories that deserve to be shared. They range from amusing to eerie to disturbing without ever getting too dark and would be a great read for anyone wanting to dip their toe into the horror genre.

I found all of them interesting to some extent. The ones that I enjoyed most were: The Frozen Man, Let Loose, Out of Sorts, The Grim White Woman, The Tarn, and my personal favorite Miss Mack.

I loved a lot of things about this book-the writing, the unique idea, the accuracy, the writing (worth mentioning twice) and I understand why so many readers loved it. I’m usually a fan of complicated family drama, but there were a couple ways that part didn’t hit right for me and it’s a huge part of the plot so that’s why it wasn’t 5 stars for me. The narrator’s “voice” felt younger than his age and the mixed messages about the father/son relationship was an unnecessary hindrance to the ultimate resolution. While these things kept Whalefall from being a new favorite, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Loved listening to this one. I wish it could have been the individual voices telling their own stories, but I understand why narrators were used since the interviews had to be trimmed. There were so many stories that I can’t remember all the names, but I still wanted more. This is something I can and will listen to again. I’ll also be looking at the original interviews, especially the ones that didn’t make it into the book.

It was so interesting to learn about people who’ve had such an impact on society and culture. Some stories made me angry, a few made me cry, and several made me laugh. Highly recommend!
