sweet conclusion to the story of lara jean song covey & peter kavinsky 🫢🏻

thoughts while reading
p3: something SPECTACULAR would have to be happening to convince me to stay out any longer than 10pm, never mind 1am!
p84: thank God she got in somewhere!
p89: no cause me or my brother would actually have to defend ourselves from being murdered if we told our parents that our partner was gonna sleep in our room
p102: AHHHHH
p117: GIRL!! ❀️
p121:
"Will you please stop calling me Ms. Rothschild? Now that I'm going to be your wicked stepmother, you should at least call me Trina. Or Tree. Whatever feels right to you."
"How about Stepmother?" I suggest, all innocence. "That feels pretty right."
She swats at me. "Girl! I will cut you."
I'M CACKLING
p129:
"Kristen is a grown woman, so I'm sure she'll be fine with whatever us kids do. She's an adult."
as a 20 year old i take slight issue with this, as I would abso-freaking-lutely not "just be fine with what the kids wanna do". but then again my brain isn't fully developed and kirsten's is so maybe she would be more understanding
p182: my heart is imploding πŸ₯°
p183: peter made the cake himself?! πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜
p203: i predict that lara jean will end up at
UNC

p230: shhhh trina, you'll make dan ban lara jean from going!
p321: an amended contract πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

p11: ooooh now who is this sharp fellow? a hawthorne or a lawyer?

yeah we'll see long that takes. my estimate is about p167
p25: my first order of business would be to explore all the secret passages
p27: girl why are book mother's first actions upon meeting literally anyone are to embarass their sons as much as possible
p35: I theorise that avery is a long-lost hawthorne somehow. running theory is tobias had a secret child who became one of avery's parents

p184: what the geck girlie pop, this is not going to help anything
p186: nash is such a southern sweetheart and libby is totally already crushing on him and is absolutely gonna fall for him
p223: no STOP cause I'm a bit of a sucker for physical touch and would probably fall in love right there and then
p225: HUH you what
p243: oh gosh poor max
p249:
"Are people being uncouth without me again? How rude."
xander is honestly hilarious
p274: nuh uh you're wrong, you do have all the numbers.

p356: the WHAT
p365: aww grayson
p369: right i need explanations now please

Did not finish book. Stopped at 26%.
I just couldn't get into the writing style. too literary and reflective for me at the moment. I will probably come back to it later in life as I've heard it's a fantastic book, but right now I'm just looking for easier, fun reads

I am pleased to have finally finished this chonker of a book, and the whole saga too, after starting Twilight a year ago! all that's left to read someday in the future is Life and Death. I liked reading Breaking Dawn and getting the extra details missing in the films, but i don't necessarily like it better than watching Breaking Dawn: Part 2, it's just different since you can finish the film in 2 hours and this book takes days to read. Breaking Dawn: Part 1 on the other hand, that I could have done without watching and WAY prefer the book. so much less traumatising

thoughts while reading
blurb:
To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare
girl really?? what does irrevocably even mean?
irrevocably: in a way that cannot be changed, reversed, or recovered.
ok...intense much??

p14:
"We're going away to Dartmouth together in the fall, Charlie," Edward reminded him. "I'd like to do that, well, the right way. It's how I was raised." He shrugged.
He wasn't exaggerating; they'd been big on old-fashioned morals during World War I.
Charlie's mouth twisted to the side. Looking for an angle to argue from. But what could he say? I'd prefer you to live in sin first? He was a dad; his hands were tied.

p38: i think girlie needs to get over her inferiority complex a bit
p89: i mean to be fair i probably wouldn't wanna sleep with someone anytime in the near future if i'd bruised them that much either

p169: gosh the names jacob calls vampires really are abundantly more hilarious in the book than the films! for example:
He nodded and held out his stone cold hand.
Swallowing my disgust, I reached out to take his hand. My fingers closed around the rock, and I shook it once."

p170: and the titles in jacob's section! my personal favourite so far; Why Didn't I Just Walk Away? Oh Right, Because I'm An Idiot
p269: honestly putting jacob's food in a dog bowl is snarky but kinda iconic
p302: favourite chapter titles, pt 2: What Do I Look Like? The Wizard of Oz? You Need A Brain? You Need A Heart? Go Ahead. Take Mine. Take Everything I Have.
p428: oh gosh,
renesmee's irritation with bella pouncing on jacob
is just hilarious! girlie pop is so much cuter than she is in the film

p567: fourth wall moment
Of course, Jacob got more surly with each new addition. He kept his distance when he could, and when he couldn't he grumbled to
Renesmee
that someone was going to have to provide an index if anyone expected him to keep all the new bloodsuckers' names straight.*

I sped through like 60% of this book in one go, and finished the book in two days! I loved it, parker is an absolute icon for running blind

p36: girl, for some reason i thought scott was gonna be revealed as parker's crush, and to find out he's her number 1 enemy is shocking
p38: the way i was literally just thinking "what are the rules?", and then they show up on the next page
p82: awww i actual love jason so far he's sweet and seems well accustomed to hanging out with blind people
p120: does jason actually know parker runs or is he just assuming based on her jokes in the shop?
p198: oh my gosh someone give this girl a hug πŸ’”πŸ˜

ira's part in this book is better than it is in the film! there's even more depth to the story since luke and sophia don't find him within the first few minutes like they do in the film, and the reminiscing is ira's subconscious β€” ruth β€” trying to keep him alive. but the reminiscing to luke and sophia in the hospital is also really sweet in the film, both the film and this book are great in their own ways

p109: these horses' names are really killing me πŸ˜‚
p122: ah! I'm squealing
p170: aww that's so sweetly intense
p234: i keep misreading "demon" as "damon" and picturing damon from The Vampire Diaries every time the book talks about demon. probably not helped by the fact that I'm currently on S8 of TVD πŸ˜‚
p240: something better not happen to break sophia's trust in luke!
p286: why would you hide something as important as that, sophia needs to know!! girl's tryna plan her future here
p398: FINALLY!!
they've found ira!!

p447: GIRL WHAT!!
LUKE FINALLY RODE BIG UGLY CRITTER AND USED THE PRIZE MONEY TO BUY SOPHIA AN ENGAGEMENT RING!!

this book shows the importance of saying goodbye to those we love, and why it's important to find a way move forward without them

thoughts while reading
p40: what is going on?? like what??
p43: I don't care what sam says, this has to be a dream
p57: sam's family are probably gonna come back and find julie sleeping on his bed, and I'm really curious to read their reactions
p75: oh my gosh, sam must have done something to her phone! it's a ghost phone now! oh dear, i bet when oliver tries to text her it won't work and he'll be upset
p98: i predict that julie and oliver will end up together
p101: what did i say? as cool as it is that she gets to talk to sam, how much longer can she keep it up? basically she's gonna have to ignore everyone else for however long she keeps talking to him.
p102: wait, what if what oliver wants to say to sam is that he'll take care of julie for him. cause that would be sweet as heck, and back up my prediction that they end up together
p116: no! don't tell me she's missed the vigil again! mika will be heartbroken if she's missed it πŸ’”
p130: mika has to be the most patient disappointed person ever. she's communicating her feelings to julie pretty well without being cruel
p135: i don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that she's taking advantage of oliver's generosity like that
p153: prediction – sam knows that julie and oliver will end up together now that he's gone, and he's gonna find a way to push them together, like in Life As We Know It
p162: wow this makes sense now, no wonder oliver was so cold with julie when sam was alive
p215: oof, girlie has someone interested
p225: of course the lantern hovers in place, that makes so much sense
p281: oh gosh, help i'm gonna cry now.
julie's gonna dial sam and he'll talk to james and then julie's gonna have to say goodbye πŸ₯Ί

p289: i'm starting to think that maybe
julie and oliver won't end up together
after all. it probably wouldn't make sense for the plot
p292: no! don't tell me she figures out where sam is and meets him there to say goodbye! cause i will actually sob πŸ’”

because I've seen the film I had a pretty good mental picture of what i was reading. great book, loved the extra details that are missing in the film. especially the brief run-through of haymitch's games, and extra characters we don't get to see on screen

thoughts while reading
p227: suzanne collins needs to write about haymitch's games! it's probably the only way we'll ever get a film of it as well, so she must! and while she's at it, how about one for finnick too?
p228: so much for not telling haymitch
p245: not darius! no!

"Careful," he says weakly. "There's a forcefield up ahead."
yeah bro, we got that!

p319: it's great deal easier to catch the foreshadowing of how the games end in this book than it is in the film
p330: aww, katniss is a lot more trusting of finnick than she is in the film and I'm here for it
p364: good job girlie, it is a
clock
. props to wiress for figuring it out ages ago. what happened to her that traumatised her so badly?

brilliant book that brings an awareness to cerebral palsy and ocd, and about how neither of those things have to define you! it is totally possible to push past your difficulties and be the best version of yourself. a medical diagnosis is not someone's whole identity, they are their own person, uniquely made by God

thoughts while reading
p55: awwww, me thinky amy might be falling in love
p61: haha the jealousy, i remember that feeling well.
the absolute ✨audacity✨ of your crush liking someone else

p66: wait a minute, i just re-checked p1 and had a thought. why is there an unsent message on amy's computer in the hospital? what the heck happens to this poor girl??
p68: was that poem a
secret, subtle love confession from amy??
ooooh damn, the tea
p74: i'm sorry girlie, i know you're still young, but you need to tell him. with your words. explicitly. otherwise he'll probably never get it. boys are kinda clueless
p78: oh my gosh, ahhhhhh! is she planning on a
public love confession?!

p80: damn, poor matthew is never gonna catch a break. amy isn't gonna stop nagging him until he gets help
p183: as long as
sanjay doesn't try to sleep with her,
that would be the last straw
p190: oooh that's rebellious, but idk what her parents expect to happen when
they tell an 17 year old not to see her best friend anymore

p195: oh my gosh idk how this could get any cuter
p204: oh come on, that's just tragic. matt's parents really need to try show him more affection
p207: i'm sorry you did WHAT??!!
BLOODY SANJAY
??!!
p272: oh my gosh,
jim and sue are the best πŸ₯Ί absolutely no hesitation in that decision

p289: oh my gosh is she really
tryna get matthew to sleep with her in a hospital πŸ˜‚

oh gosh this is a fantastic book, especially for someone like me who's read the bible story! esther's story is one of my favourites, and this is a fantastic retelling! it really made think, because aside from the fantasy elements, some of what roxana went through might be exactly what happened to esther.
I am still dead over what happened to jayla and owen

thoughts while reading
p141: hmm i wonder if
roxana being the only one to return fully clothed
means something. like maybe
he respects her in a weird twisted way?

p182: I reckon the fairies that follow the traditions represent jewish believers, and characters like sergus who also pray represent gentile believers
p329: oh my gosh, this is totally how the order to kill all the fairies happens! i just knew
torgen had to be haman

p344: WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO US?? i don't know how to deal with this information. i am a shell
p352: no, please. tell me he didn't. there has to be a reasonable explanation
p353: i knew it, but i'm heartbroken

We don't perform the rites to be rewarded. They are helpful reminders for when our faith wears thin.
i am so proud of roxana for opening her heart to that little spark of faith

From the beginning, Ehyen must have known I would be like this, with these mistakes. Maybe that's why He didn't give me wings.
My fate had been sealed before I was even born.
you don't know how right you are girl, but it's not because you're not worthy, it's because you were born for such a time as this

p362: ahhhhhh! the bible story is bible-ing
p365: AHHHH! IT'S DANIEL IN THE LION'S DEN!!

But maybe it's not up to you. Perhaps Ehyen has placed you here for such a time as this, so that you do not need to do anything but have faith, and through you He will save the lives of many.
THE BIBLE QUOTES!!

But there are no secrets. There is only a choice that I must make. And whatever I choose will likely lead to my death. It's inevitable.
AHHHHHH I LOVE THE BIBLE IT'S SO DRAMATIC

p367: wait a minute, i just realised that the mermaids are angels! that's so cool!
p369: i am extremely curious to see what roxana does now! she can't do the same as esther right?
p373: oh my gosh, that's right! fredrick calls her his mermaid, so he's calling her an angel
p390:
I don't think fredrick loves roxana yet, but he definitely respects her. this should take her far

Do not shrink back in fear of these enemies who seek to destroy you. You have not been forgotten. Have faith and persevere.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful.
