a unique blending of beautiful writings and inspiring block prints,
one of my all time favorite books so far and this one is fit to read anywhere, at anytime, spontaneously and leisurely.

Lúc đọc giữa chừng, mình đã nghĩ đây là cuốn sách thích hợp để tặng cho những người mất đi một nửa mình yêu thương. Nhưng tới lúc đọc xong thì lại nghĩ, nó hẳn vẫn không thể là quyển sách thích hợp nhất được.
Mỗi quyển sách của Ichikawa Takuji đều kết nối với nhau. Tình yêu, mất mát, kí ức, giấc mơ, cái chết và một thế giới song song nào đấy. Mình cứ đinh ninh là tác giả đã có trong tay một cốt truyện thú vị, lối hành văn nhẹ nhàng, cuốn hút nhưng lúc nào cũng không thấy đủ chắc để gắn kết tất cả lại. Sự chậm rãi rất điển hình của văn học Nhật thường khiến mình mất kiên nhẫn. Dù cho quyển này có là quyển đầu tiên của tác giả mình xem một lèo không cần nghe bản nhạc nào để nhấm nháp vị chậm chạp của nó, thì càng về sau, lại càng thấy đây là sự lê thê không cần thiết.
Bên cạnh đó thì vài chi tiết hơi đột ngột, lẽ ra nên được chậm lại để cảm xúc được nắm bắt tốt hơn. Ví dụ như việc Satoshi và Misaki chia tay nhau và Satoshi đối diện với sự dao động dành cho Karin chuyển ngoặt thật sự là đột ngột. Cảm giác như đánh mất một phần cảm xúc nào đấy, tưởng đã mất vài trang truyện luôn ấy chứ.

Ngoài ra thì có hai chi tiết mình thích nhất:
* “sự ngẫu nhiên được sắp đặt tuyệt vời” - mình thích cách nói này lắm.
&
* “[...]một thế giới ở dưới đáy của giấc mơ và được ban cho sức mạnh để gọi mọi người quay về” - một concept gợi mở rất nhiều cảm hứng.

I’d seen this book by Austin Kleon many times before, but it didn’t trigger enough courage in me to have it on my bookself ’til I, without prior planning, opened a page which titled “No Guilty Pleasure’ and a quote of Dave Grohl is added below “I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you f–ing like something, like it.” Yes it hit me so hard that I ended up buying the book in the blink of an eye.


The book is a list of well-organized essential ideas for all the things you should keep in mind to “show your work”: from how to deal with your inner self problems to the way to communicate with your followers and colleagues and be findable. Through facts, tips, short stories and experiences he collected, Austin Kleon refreshes the readers’ minds with continually positive attitude, which, in the long tiring creative process, could be neglected from time to time. Randomly reading any chapter in this book may brighten up your mind with ceaseless inspiration.

Besides, Austin Kleon’s black and white photographs, concised quotes, coupled with clever newspaper blackout phrases are not only make long story short but they also give such thought-provoking impression.

Bản mình đọc là bản tiếng việt, mua cách đây cũng lâu trong nhà sách (giờ cũng không nhớ nhà sách nào ;_;)

Quyển sách tranh từng được thầy mình gợi ý mua để học về sơ lược lịch sự của một nhân vật vĩ đại trong nền nghệ thuật thế giới: Leonardo da Vinci. Cái tên mà đối với mình mang quá nhiều bí ẩn đến mức khó tin là thật. Nhưng quyển sách này đã không làm mình thất vọng khi vẽ ra một cái nhìn cận cảnh hơn về con người ấy.

Hài hước là câu chuyện được kể từ góc nhìn của một nhân vật hư cấu nhưng các nhân vật phụ lại có thật. Từng chi tiết bé xíu được vẽ rất tỉ mỉ và chọn style rất hợp để diễn tả một câu chuyện từ thời Phục Hưng. Khổ thì to đủ để ngồi ngắm mấy chi tiết tranh vẽ mãi thôi.

Duy nhất một điều kinh hãi là mình không hiểu tại sao lại chọn vẽ những khuôn mặt y hệt nhau trong những bức tranh có người học việc ở xưởng của Leonardo da Vinci. Một sự cố ý gây ấn tượng thị giác, một sự phân thân có hàm ý hay chỉ đơn thuần là một chọn lựa ? Bức tranh creepy nhất với mình là khi Leonardo (với chòm râu nhọn hoắt như đầu bút chì, lại lần nữa khiến mình tự nghi vấn những điều trên) đuổi theo những đứa trẻ giữa đêm, những biểu tượng kinh hãi trong cùng một khuôn mặt được duplicate lên, hẳn là không nên được xem vào ban đêm ;___;

Bỏ qua việc không ưng ý về thiết kế nhân vật lắm thì còn lại đều khiến mình thấy đủ và hài lòng. Một câu chuyện đủ súc tích, thêm thắt phần phụ lục và chú thích về giai đoạn, tác giả và các tác phẩm, các cột mốc dữ kiện lịch sử đi kèm tranh minh họa chi tiết nhưng cũng tóm tắt nhất, hợp cho một người lớn xem và nhớ cũng như cho trẻ con đọc và tò mò hơn.

I'd love to buy all the comic strips of Moomin series someday. I cannot stop re-reading this comic book. Every page is filled with sweet tone and delight colors. Every rhythmically line expresses the unique style of Janssons in her way of seeing, in her way of forming the world of Moomins only.

One of my favorite show on NatGeo is The Dog Whisperer. I know Cesar Millan doesn't pocess any magic but firm determination, balanced energy and broad knowledge toward dogs. I bought this book as a gift for my love but i couldn't help reading it beforehand.

I know some people may feel Cesar was being so harsh and giving you shattered truth while reading his book, but I believe it's all crucial to attain. This book ultimately changed the way I entertainingly react to some videos and accounts for dogs on social media. It saddens me to see how we sometimes isolate and mislead them for our 'emotional yearnings and needs". For a moment, I wonder if it's truth that as love forever is, perhaps love is blind since we started to get them being more humans than leaving them as who they truly are. Reading this book will definitely gives you some time to reflect yourself as you have more lessons to approach and be the best leader and a best friend for your dog.

Initially, I only managed to borrow this book as a reference for my art history class but now, if I ever find this book somewhere else, I will definitely buy it without hesitation. So remarkably detailed and invaluable that I feel like I have learned so so much beyond expectation. Not only does Sylvan Barnet give me ways of seeing and understanding any work of art but he also reflects on some mistakes that I may stumble upon throughout the process of (both amateur and professional) writing, such as doing research, jotting down ideas, revising drafts, giving credits and so on. This book is even a better guide for non-native English writers because he takes many pages to guide us on using synonyms, tenses, tones of writing, common mis-spelling terminologies and wordplay. As an aside, this book is one included in Sylvan's the short guide series. If you're interested, you can check out all of them and find a perfect match for yourself to read.

For an endeavour to frame the big picture of art history in more than six hundred pages, such a book is appropriate inasmuch as formal analyses are thoroughly written along with a good quality of exemplification. Providing a wide range of knowledge for especially students as well as art enthusiasts, Art: A Brief History is a great starting-point to adventure into arts from the past, sailing to contemporary arts and perhaps, linking to the future. Anyhow, the book still has its flaws from my personal perspective. A few unclear classifications of renowned pieces (such as chapter 18 of European and American Art from 1840 to 1910) and a multitude of definitions are far more complex than they should be.

Quyển sách đắt đỏ mình quằn quại mua cho môn Lịch Sử Nghệ Thuật và bây giờ thì không hối hận. Thời gian học cũng không đủ trải đều cho từng chương nên mình cố gắng đọc bù lại ở nhà. Quyển sách to, xem tranh rất đã, tới nỗi ban đầu còn say sưa xem tưởng như là đang đứng trước tranh thật (xong về sau tụt hứng một tẹo vì là tranh in sai màu cũng nhiều, mà cũng không trách được); dày cộm nhưng vẫn là ít ỏi để đi sâu vào bất kì điều gì, vẫn là một nền tảng tốt để tích cóp thêm kiến thức cho những quyển sau này đọc. Vì cùng đọc với bài giảng của giảng viên nên nhận ra là có một vài chi tiết, cách định nghĩa có vẻ quá phức tạp (đúng kiểu học thuật). Khi tự đọc thì một số phân loại tranh vào thời kì vẫn khiến mình bối rối (cũng chỉ có thể cân nhắc do sách được tham khảo từ nhiều nguồn khác nhau); về Nghệ Thuật Đương Đại, đối với mình thì có chút dư thừa khi nói về quá nhiều tác phẩm mà thật sự vẫn cần thời gian để minh chứng cho giá trị của chúng.

Một quyển sách tốt để giữ làm của như bách khoa toàn thư ấy, khi nào cần ôn lại điều gì cũng có thể tìm thấy (hầu hết) thứ mình cần.

It was emotional when closing this book after months of taking it with me everywhere. If I'd read full five volumes of V W's diary, I bet I would be much more haunted. Oftentimes it was hard for me to continue reading while I was sinking into my mental breakdown. I dragged along with a flood of emotions; I found words that I had not known how to put together; I imagined how everything was falling apart... There were days I even thought that I saw her in strangers' faces. Owing to this book, I decided to write diary again on the first day of 2018. Yes Virginia Woolf gave me both sorrow and courage. I also did a tribute art for her as a way to lighten my heavy heart. I don't think she would be my favourite person if we met, but I do empathize with her personally.

Two of my favourite things about this book are Virginia's friendships with other artists and her invaluable marriage with Leonard Woolf.
Every time I flipped through a year, reading about a death of Virginia's circle of friends, it was like I was there watching her life fall apart, witnessing they were spending years together and out of the blue, death grabbed them rapidly leaving no traces except memories.

Despite the fact that the writer had many affairs with both sexes, her marriage with Leo Woolf utterly has my admiration. He was not only a comfort but a reliable one for her to ask opinions before publishing every single work throughout her life. Their marriage was built upon understanding and respect with no sex involved (due to traumatic events in Virginia's past that she fears of sexual intimacy, hence Leo Woolf was believed to have remained a celibate in the marriage with Virginia).

Then the coming of World War II. Virginia lived between wars (which would be the worst situation for me) and it actually affected her a lot. It is bizarre to think about this time: Hitler drove the world crazy; Anne Frank hid in the secret annex and Virginia spent the last few years of her life. However, I'm grateful that Virginia gave me a chance to get into the lives of people during this catastrophic world war by dashing words through the dark.

*One thing which is not really related to the content:

I should have never never underestimated the value of a book's dust jacket!!!

I usually read while traveling so I'm thankful for having it protect the inside cover as well as giving me the info of original price and bits of valuable book information at the time when it was published.

Page by page, it was full of grief reaching the end of this book. It is not the way you romanticize hopeless things but how it hurts you to feel that sometimes, nothing succeeds a disastrous mind. Even the purest love cannot save you.

I guess by reading and writing about this book, I pour too many feelings out.
