Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

A story about the strange events surrounding the birth of a boy who matures at an abnormal rate, reaching manhood rapidly – all the while being brainwashed into rituals & witchcraft by his grandfather and by using such practices come with deadly repercussions. 👹
Typical Lovecraft writing, of mysterious presences which are unseen but terrifying; I love his writing and this story is very good - a perfect Halloween read. 4/5 👻

This one is about a man trying to find out how a piece of land came to be known as “The Blasted Heath” after a meteorite crashed to the ground was found to contain strange properties and a colour that has never been seen before.
Scientists try figuring out what’s going on, but it snowballs as it dawns on everyone that they have no idea what they’re dealing with and the fear of the unknown sets in.
Lovecraft (as usual) doesn't give any details of what was contained in the meteor that caused all of this damage, he just leaves it up to your imagination and that's why I've always loved his work.
This one tells the story of Arthur Gordon Pym, who goes away on a whaling ship with his best friend who just happens to be the Captain's son. Lots of things happen on his trip including mutiny, shipwreck and cannibalism.
I'd give this one a 3/5 due to the abrupt ending, I'm sitting here wondering what happened afterwards.
A mysterious "suicide" in a top secret Air Force lab - a hushed-up UFO crash above the Arctic circle - was there a link between these strange, terrifying events?
Okay, this books plot was really cool and stuff like this interest me a lot whether it's fiction or non-fiction.
BUT with this particular book, it's definitely rushed, the ending was abrupt, it lacked character development and it's a little bit dated.
(Plot is very cool but it's rushed and lacks details)
I think this was like the first detective story ever written?
Anyway...the story is about a guy called C. Auguste Dupin who's in Paris and solves the mystery behind the brutal murder of two women. The witnesses heard a suspect, but nobody agrees on what language was spoken.
At the murder scene, Dupin finds a hair that does not appear to be human.
The ending was surprising and I liked this one. 🕵️♂️
There really wasn't much at all to this one plot-wise, it's basically two friends (Josiah & Deja) who work year after year together at a pumpkin patch and this is their last year working there before heading off to college and they want to make their last shift the best shift ever.
So while Deja is happy to eat all the snacks she can get her hands on, Josiah wants more, he wants to talk to a girl he's had a crush on for years and tries to get help from his friend Deja..
It'll be a night that will forever change them both..
I'll leave it there.
It was cute. But.. Short. Not much context. I read it in 20 minutes. I'd like to read more from this author. Nice feel to this one.
I am so glad I decided to read it, after passing it by for long enough and that goes for the author as well; definitely going to delve into his other works at some point - recommendations?
I don't particularly read war fiction but the Dresden bombing running through the book held my interest and left me wanting to know more, I'm definitely going to read up on it as it sounds astonishing.
The sci-fi parts were interesting too. I can see why the book is discussed as being about what is now called PTSD but which had no name until relatively recently.
Loved this book, it's so well written and I liked getting to know more about Springsteen as I never knew much about him beforehand but a lot of his songs I've had on repeat for years such as I'm On Fire which gives me goosebumps everytime and Streets of Philadelphia, which is like a shot to the heart! - among others**
This book is about his life growing up, the difficult relationship with his father, his early years musically, his self doubts and ongoing battle with depression, marriage, being a parent, his creativity, his fame and endurance.
He bares it all, I like his honesty.
It's funny, it's sad, it's informative and filled with wisdom.
I've had this book for quite some time and finally got around to reading it, my expectations were high but I'm disappointed, it's not a horror novel, there's nothing 'horror' about it - it's a thriller novel.
While I don't mind a thriller every once in a while this one did nothing for me, it was just very predictable.
With all that said, there's another reason I've put it down to a one star rating and that's the terrible editing in the writing.
I've not given up on this authors work though, I'm going to give The Shaft a read at some point because I have it and it sounds cool; this one though..👎
Written by a Professor of Psychiatry who studied people who said they had encounters with alien beings, this is the outcome of him listening to their stories and taking them seriously.
It's a collection of various stories and regressions of people who claim to have been abducted.
There's a lot more to this book though, it goes deep psychologically and spiritually.
A must read if you're interested or aware of this phenomena, it's the best one I've read.
