I've been dying to read Kiss of Frost ever since I read the last page of Touch of Frost back in July, and was happy that I only had until November to get the next installment of this thrilling tale! Although it turned out that I didn't even have to wait that long, thanks to Jennifer for sending me a copy of the eARC in early September, which I devoured very quickly!
Boy oh boy, was it good! Just like Touch of Frost left me aching for Kiss of Frost. Kiss of Frost left me longing for the third: Dark Frost, really really badly! I just can't wait to get my hands on it!
Kiss of Frost was also the first book that I read on my brand new kindle, which by the time this review is out, wont be so new.
Everything that I loved about Touch of Frost was all present in Kiss of Frost and even more amazing things were added.
Kiss of Frost dives right into the action, with a fast paced opening scene and things don't slow down there! Jennifer keeps up the pace and I have yet to find one dull moment in the Mythos Academy series, its just so much fun to read and keeps you enraptured right up until the end. (the teaser for book three will leaving you gaping and gasping for more!)
Logan, the sexy beast is back and possibly even hotter than he was in the first book... although he does act like a complete ass for a while, but hey he's a guy, who are known to be prone to random acts of douchery. But honestly, I think he makes up for all that near the end.. well he did for me anyway.
Gwen, is as always such a pleasure and a complete hoot to read about, I love everything about her, her attitude, her fashion sense and most especially her sense of humor... and of course, her taste in guys... and swords!
One thing that I'm going to mention, well ask really is: Jennifer always uses the term 'The Powers That Were' I don't know if it's just me and my strange Australian ways, but I've always seen 'The Powers That Be' and not 'Were' - have any of you lovely readers heard this term before? Or maybe its just unique for the Mythos Academy series and I'm just being silly.
Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep was a thrilling read and I highly reccomend this series to everyone! If you love a good mystery, hilarious and yummy characters, this series is definitely for you!

I actually liked Kiss of Frost. Maybe not as much as book one, Touch of Frost, but it is a solid follow up. Gwen is growing in her powers and understanding this new world around her. Her growth was pretty good even though I had to keep reminding myself she is a teenager, so I should expect her to be completely mature and reasonable. I'm really enjoying this world that Ms. Estep is creating. The mythology is just different enough to keep me interest piqued, while also being familiar enough that I don't feel like I'm starting from scratch. The mystery of the Reaper wasn't too surprising, but some other bombshells are dropped and, I'll admit, I'm curious as to how this series will continue.

Unlike the first of the series this one's rating is the actual solid 3.
Okay, so the series did improve for me. Gwen wasn't as annoying as I once thought. Even though she did still pity herself and complain about her role as a champion, she did seem to grow up a little.
However, it was pretty predictable. The thing about Oliver? Called it. Who the reaper actually was? So freaking obvious. Sometimes I seriously wanted to yell at Gwen to open her freaking eyes since he was clearly right in front of her!!!!
Anyway, the things I liked about the book were the other characters. Oliver, Daphne, Carson, and even the little bit of Kenzie that appeared. They were great. And then there is Logan. Sigh. Why do authors have to make their boys jerks when they can't be with the girl? Why not just make the readers happy and let them be together!?! But then of course at the end he is awesome. I loved the shyness that was given to him and all of his vulnerability. Gah. He is just so perfect in that not perfect way :)
Overall, this one definitely improved my opinion of the series and I shall continue it.

I really loved this series but can you say copy and paste? In recapping the previous book one finds oneself immersed in pages and pages of recap WORD FOR WORD from the last book. Again great story but Because I had to skip pages to avoid the regurgitation It goes in my 3 and a half category for the writing style which saddens me because apart from that I really enjoyed it.

Kiss of Frost brings us back to the world of magic and myth that lies within Mythos Academy. Gwen, a.k.a. Gyspy Girl is having a crash course in training with the gorgeous Logan and is failing in both the fighting and love department. It is rare for me to prefer a sequel to the first book but here I must say, Kiss of Frost, over shadows Touch of Frost. It is exciting with action romance and humor.

I’m always hesitant to start reading the second book in a series or trilogy, because that’s usually the book I end up not really liking. It’s not that I didn’t like Kiss of Frost, it’s just that so much of it was a recap! The first 30% of the book is all one big recap, pity party, and repetition of the same things over and over and OVER again. I mean, I got it the first fifty times; students carry weapons everywhere, students are filthy rich, Gwen has a purple plaid coat, and students waste no time finding places to have sex. We get it. MOVE ON. The only interesting bit during this part was that Gwen’s powers seem to be evolving.
Back in Touch of Frost, Logan rejects Gwen’s proposal to start going out and now Gwen is just so bitter and nasty about the whole thing that it colored all her judgment and character. I just wasn’t that interested in the continuous pity party. I cheered so loud when Daphne told her, “Oh, suck it up, Gwen.” And the Valkyrie should’ve probably repeated it a couple of more times. At least she is fierce when confronting Logan. Gwen gets brownie points for not giving into him that easily.
Things finally pick up about 40% into the book, when they arrive at the ski resort. Oh, before that two attempts are made on her life by a Reaper of Chaos. Gwen’s decides to be pretty stupid with the whole “I want to be a super warrior too” thing that she keeps quiet about every single incident thinking she can deal with it on her own. Why do heroes always do this? Think that they can take on the world without help. Anyways, there is all sorts of cool going on at the resort; hot guy from another academy, ski slopes and Winter Carnival, an avalanche, and oh yeah, a massive Fenrir wolf with blood red eyes. See? Action. Interesting.
By the end of the book Gwen was back in my good graces. She shows incredible bravery choosing to fight for her friends, and actually coming up with a plan to stop the Reaper. Also, yay for sexy Spartan Logan. I can never get enough of him, and once again I’m left wanting for more Logan time during this book. Sigh. Sadly I saw the villain coming a mile away. It was actually pretty hilarious reading his dialogue parts, because I already knew he was the bad guy.
I was going to give it 4 out of 5, because I do so love the mythology in this series, but that 40% recap just about killed me. I’ll still be waiting for Dark Frost, which I pray doesn’t have such a long recap.
