I liked the historical elements of this book. There is a mysterious feeling that runs throughout the storyline of this book and leaves you guessing as to what is going to happen next and about the characters' pasts. The story did tend to drag in some areas but overall a good book. I enjoyed the characters and thought that the author did a good job developing them. It's hard not to care for the characters and for what happens to them throughout the story. The author tells a good story and I will definitely read her other books in the future. Highly recommend this book if you like a little romance, with intrigue with a hint of mystery all mixed in.

The overall premise was intriguing but it was stifled by endless description that was completely unnecessary and somewhat two dimensional characters.
I don’t know I just felt unsatisfied at the end given the overall premise of the story.

THE UNSEEN by Katherine Webb
A slow burn murder-mystery, but one that is chock full of well-researched historical references that were quite interesting.
In 2011, Leah is investigating the origins of some letters found on an unidentified and mummified WWII soldier. The info she gathers leads to a small Berkshire village in England.
In 1911, fresh out of prison after her involvement in a Suffragette demonstration, Catherine “Cat” Morley, has secured a position as a servant to Reverend Albert Canning and his wife Hester. Cat is ambitious, feisty, and refuses to settle for a life as a servant.
Hester is young and naive. She doesn’t understand why Albert refuses to consummate their marriage. (

I really really wanted to like this when I started reading it, but the story just slugged along. Also I overall didn't get what I wanted out of the story so it was a disappointing read at the time. I do remember that the writing wasn't bad and at times I kind of enjoyed the story, but really this is only an okay read. Definitely not something you would read again and again.

Like in the "The Unseen", this features a dual timeline story, which is always one of my favourite tropes, but in this novel, it felt flat, especially during the modern timeline, it was interesting enough, but It didn't "fit" the rest of the atmosphere, it just seem to drag the story, not adding anything new.
The whole book is very detailed and compelling, but it could've been a little shorter. There're various interesting historical elements throughout, like the suffragist movement, but the story did slow down significantly in the middle.
