Into the Darkest Corner was very suspenseful and difficult to put down. The writing flowed and the characters were well-rounded and believable. The antagonist was terrifying, and the protagonist was well-rounded. It was clear that the author did her research into OCD and PTSD, as well as the law enforcement component of her novel. The main character, Cathy, gave a fairly accurate portrait of someone with OCD and PTSD, and it was exciting to watch her triumph over some of her symptoms in a realistic way. There was a secondary romantic plot, but it felt like it belonged and was relevant to the main plot. It did not feel cliche or thrown in.

I also thought that the way the author handled the inter-weaving of past and present was brilliant. It allowed both stories to unfold simultaneously, while revelations of the past provided the structure of understanding for thought patterns of the present.

Overall, this book was highly realistic and quite terrifying. The conclusion was satisfying. The language was crisp and clear. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes realistic suspense that does occasionally feel quite scary. I am eager to read more of Haynes' work.

The more the narrator was able to control her anxiety, the more I became anxious for her. Well written suspenseful thriller chronicling the spiral into physical and emotional domestic abuse and the chain reaction impact that it has on everyone's lives. High suspense. Intense. Chilling.

The only mystery here is how a thing like this could ever get published. At the beginning I thought there must be something wrong with me because not even 50 pages in, I found this sort of “story” dull and inane (not to mention I’ve read fanfictions that were written better than this), but there were so many 5-star reviews so certainly this was bound to get better, right? Haha. That didn’t happen. So anyway, we are presented with the story of how the female person (it would be insulting to other literary characters to call her a “heroine” or whatever) comes to meet the male walking-cliché but not after many, many, maaany completely unnecessary chapters where the female person does mundane things I don’t know how someone could ever think they would interest the reader or add to the story or anything. Pointless. I don’t even wanna comment on how the events unfold because other well-thought one-star reviews brilliantly explained them. I just wanna say, please don’t read this. You don’t deserve such pain and disappoint in your life. Mine was enough really.

I finished this page-turner in one day. The plot is like a Lifetime Original made-for-tv movie, which was the perfect thing for me to read today.

Initially, I thought the way each chapter jumped back and forth in time was gimmicky and made the story hard to follow, but I really enjoyed seeing the old Catherine evolve into present-day Catherine. There were times where I was incredulous about how Cathy's friends were acting towards her, but I guess that's one of many frustrations Catherine had to go through.

If you ever have to spend a day in bed or on the sofa because of an injury, this would be the perfect book to accompany you if you're into thrillers.
