SPOILERS

I did enjoy this book although it has 2 fatal flaws: the lack of support from Cathy's friends - they believe a guy they met two weeks previously over someone they've known for many years, and also Stuart, conveniently a psychologist, who moves in and falls completely in love with her.

Neither of these points stopped my heart racing uncontrollably for the last third of the book though, so overall a good effort.

This book hooked me! The writer writes the lead character's anxiety so well that I felt I began to share it! Ha ha! This book will keep you on your toes wondering who can be trusted and if the main character is even believable herself.

It's extremely rare that I finish a book in a day these days-other than when I'm on holiday. It may have been due to fortuitous circumstances that let me do so, or the fact that I just couldn't put this book down. Why this one over others, I'm not even really sure... for me, I guess it had the right mix of believable characters (an incredibly chilling description of how a relationship descends into abuse) and wanting to know what happens to them.

Catherine is a young British girl, enjoying life, going out with her friends and partying. One night, a bouncer at a club, Lee, notices her, and they start dating. Lee seems perfect, he is gorgeous and he is madly in love with Catherine. However, Catherine starts to get antsy when Lee becomes possessive of her and quite aggressive.
Fast forward 5 years and Catherine (now called Cathy) is terrified, she has OCD, and she doesn't go out. In fact, all her friends are gone. She has a new neighbor, Stuart, who befriends her.
The story is told between her time with Lee, and then 5 years later. This is a story of an obsession by Lee towards Catherine, and her fight to survive.
Some of the scenes are quite graphic and heartbreaking.

It was an enjoyable read, even though it followed a pretty predictable formula.

I was hooked, I read a few pages and got bored, but a few pages later and I could not put it down!
