One thing that I hadn't expected when picking up a book about were dragons, was that it would play in this time (I think I just had too many prejudices when it comes to dragons ;) ), but it worked perfectly. This was one of those books I couldn't put down anymore once I picked it up (I might have lost some sleeping hours to it this week). I really liked the main character, I liked the heist(s) and the preparations for that. I liked the twists that came after the heist... It's actually 4,5 star for me, I guess? I don't know exactly what missed for the last half star, but all in all, I absolutely loved it!

Probably 3.5 stars. Lots of cliches in this book, and it was hard to become invested in the characters. I also don't really read a lot of fantasy dragon books, because they aren't really my thing. However, the most redeeming quality of the book is the message that the greatest treasure we can acquire in life is family and friends.

The fantasy and world of this novel are compelling, but the characters are not. There isn't enough tension between Sky and her friends. Even her ex-boyfriend who shunned her had a good reason for doing so, and once he tells her why very early in the story, he's a good guy again. There was so much opportunity to make his motives questionable, but nope! One second he's bad, the next second he's redeemed, and he doesn't disappoint Sky again.

On top of the lack of tension between characters, the main character Sky has no inner conflict either. She's sure what she's doing is "right" and doesn't question herself, which means there's no tension within her, and that's boring too.

I'm 2/3 of the way through this book, past the mid-point twist, and I'm not going to finish it. Without tension between the characters, stories are boring. No matter the cool heists, were-dragons and magic places, without tension everything falls flat and I just don't care enough to finish this story.

Fun book! Nothing super amazing, but still entertaining. Could have been improved with a little more world building. There were a lot of really cool concepts in this book, but they needed to be fleshed out a bit more.

This was just meh. It’s started off well and I like Sky but a lot of the time it read like a middle grade rather than YA. The humour was really childish and there were too many cheesy moments that made me cringe. I have to admit I skimmed a bit toward the end cuz I just got bored. There were some good ideas but it just wasn’t for me.

What a cute book! The premise made me want to pick it up immediately. When I started reading I was a bit iffy about it, but the story picked up and it was a fun ride!

So this book had a lot of potential. I bought this because I loved Sarah Beth Durst's adult high fantasy trilogy, and there was my first mistake. I read a lot of YA so I assumed this wouldn't be that different, I also assumed from the synopsis that this was High-Fantasy... it is not. I don't read YA contemporary or urban-fantasy because high schoolers suck and I'm not excluding myself from that (I sucked in High School) and I hate reading about high school problems.

I also feel like this synopsis and idea have so much room for more and I would love to see more of this world but in the adult genre with adult characters. This whole world and concept are so fucking cool but in 290 pages they just felt super underdeveloped and like set dressing to a high school romance and family drama.

I don't want to give this book a lower rating because I feel like 14 year old me would have fucked with this book and I was just not the target audience.

3 - conflicted stars.

I don’t want to say the book was bad, but... what a mess. No world building, no character development... Honestly, it felt like the kind of books I used to read at elementary school but with a bit more kissing. Which is a shame, because I believe it could have been a decent middle grade novel.
