3.5 stars, entertainment factor was A+ though
•H: Jake, 26yrs old
•h: Ellie, 16/17yrs old
•OW: Janet, Jake's gf of two years
•OM: Riley, irrelevant but he's the guy Ellie kinda has a thing with
•Setting: small ass town, the kind where if you look into a dark corner you'll accidentally see your dad fucking the grocery store owner's wife who also happens to be your schoolteacher
•Me: ✨eagerly watching this shit show unfold✨
>>At the courthouse, where Jake and child bride Ellie are about to be married so she doesn't end up in the foster system:
He was wearing his suit that he’d worn to Dad’s funeral. Same suit he’d worn to his own father’s funeral. His only suit. What if he wore it to his next wedding? That would be too awful. I would have to tell him that. Do not marry Janet in the same suit you married me in. I knew instinctively Janet would not like that.
Y'all imma start a gofundme to get this mans a new suit

Not what I was expecting
This was so heartwarming and sweet. Nothing raunchy between the two and it's nice to see. I can't wait to read the other books to see their relationship grow.

Books 1 to 4 review
Entirely bingeable series that delivers sweet angst, humor and steam while staying relatively low on drama. Great take on the age gap/marriage of convenience/love unrequited and the irresistible shift between friends becoming lovers. SLOWBURN goodness alert!
I liked that the heroine —despite her young age starting the book— was not just the silly teenager we often get served in romance books . Sure she was candid at times but I found her pretty mature all things considered. The hero was a swoonfest, I'm not saying he was perfect, he definitely wasn't, but this is what actually really pleased me in this book. Neither love interests were perfect. They were relatably flawed and it made their story truly engaging.
This is a 4 books series dedicated to the main couple, Ellie and Jake, available on #KU.
There's a fifth book about the hero's step-sister, the trope seems to be an enemies to lovers set in the same small town/ranch. I may or may not have started it to get additional glimpses of Ellie and Jake. ;)

A surprisingly delightful read.
Did not know what to expect from this when I strayed it but I have to say I enjoyed the heck out of it.
Sixteen year old Ellie was left alone when her father died of a sudden heart attack. As she is only sixteen her only options are to be sent to Florida to live with an aunt in drug rehab, go into foster care or marry Jake, the adult son of her dad's friend and ranch manager. He is her father's right hand man and the hottest guy in their Montana town.
Refusing to allow Ellie to be put into foster care, Jake chooses to marry Ellie, a marriage of convenience, until she turns eighteen. This will be easy for them especially since they grew up together and are like brother and sister anyway.
I loved the way the author kept the dynamic of their relationship so open and innocent. You never got a creepy older man, teen girl vibe from them. Their constant banter was so much like siblings that it made it easy and fun to read the book. Jake's crazy ex-girlfriend gave the book a bit of drama.
I shed a tear when Ellie broke down after the wedding and Jake understood and took such good care of her. And later in the book, after the storm, in the bathroom...that was HOT!
I am eager to read the next installment of this series and pray that it will be as wonderful as "The Bride".

I needed something quick and easy to get me out of a slump. This worked, but it left off on a huge cliffhanger and now I need to continue on to figure out what happened next. Be forewarned there are a ton of little grammar errors in the kindle copy but, it’s free on kindle unlimited so 🤷🏻♀️

First off I have to say, when my friend Geri recommended this series to me I thought that woman was crazy. A novella series about a 16 year old bride? Everything in it's marketing, from the cover to the description sounded like a taboo sex novel along the lines of Alexa Riley (not that there's anything wrong with Alexa Riley and books like theirs, it just ain't my thing). Honestly, I think the marketing for this book is all wrong, but that's just me. I never would have picked this up without a recommendation.
But I took a chance anyway, because well, TRUST and all that fun stuff. And I am so glad I did! To clarify, this is NOT a taboo sex driven novel, but really a story of a young girl who has lost everything, and the family friend who did what it took to keep her from going into foster care and to remain in her family home until she turned 18 in a little over a year.
I gotta say, I loved Ellie. The author did a good thing and didn't have her acting her age, like an annoying teenager as younger heroines are so often portrayed. Ellie was dealt the hard hands in life early on, and we see how that makes her transition into early adulthood and no longer being that carefree teen. Jake was a bit harder to read, I definitely want to get to know him better in the other books. He takes care of Ellie, he loves her as a sister. But the progression of that into something more is a bit of a mystery to me.
I cannot wait to read the other books, this is a poignant story about dealing with loss and the evolution of love. KU readers rejoice, it appears this series is currently on KU!

My eyes are burning literally the worst book I’ve ever read. And I rarely hate books.

I read this entire series in around two days. I enjoyed it, the pacing was decent, if a smidge on the slow side. I definitely feel this would be better if all three books (there may be more, but I stopped at three) were put into one and some parts taken out.
