Ahh this was so good and a quick and easy read. I can't believe how complex the characters but then again I can and I must say they are amazing and the ending oh boy!!! I need the next volume in my hands now.

Okay so I may be alone in thinking this but I loveedddd this especially because it included mythology and if you know me than you know I'm a sucker for mythology. Loved the artwork and the plot and I can't wait to check out more of these from the library.

I don't have the words yet to say how I feel so I'm just going to say that this book was amazing and that i needed after election night and that if you haven't picked it up you definitely are missing out on some life changing material.
Superman: American Alien by Max Landis

Really interesting concept! I like reading Superman's origin story and the artwork was brilliant. I even enjoyed how batman is incorporated into this volume. Can't wait to read more!
Jacob's New Dress by Ian Hoffman, Chris Case, Sarah Hoffman
4.0
This is was a really great insight to gender non conformity and was developed in a way that all children and adults can learn about this topic. I absolutely adored Jacob and I loved how he continuously asked his mom for a dress because that's what he's most comfortable in. This isn't a story related to the sexuality of Jacob but more so a story of what it's like to raise a child that doesn't want to conform to assigned gender roles.
Gotham Academy Vol. 3: Yearbook by Brenden Fletcher
3.0
Ok so this definitely wasn't my favorite of the Gotham Academy series. Here's what I did like:
-The idea that we get to learn about their year at the academy through a yearbook.
-We find out so much about characters that weren't previously introduced.
-The friendship between all the characters. They've come a long way from the first volume.
-Some of the artwork...not all of it. I didn't like some of the guest artists.
-Maps played such an important role in this volume and I absolutely love her as a character.
Things I didn't like:
-The fact that there were so many guest artists.
-The stories didn't exactly flow together the way I thought they would have.
-I wanted a little more of where we left off from the last volume.

Locomotive by Brian Floca

Okay this is one that I did not enjoy that much. While the artwork was brilliant, the story never did capture my attention. It is extremely informative in that it provides the reader with the history behind the transcontinental railroad; however, it just felt sort of jumbled and put together for the sake of being put together. I think I rated it this high simply because the artwork was extremely beautiful. I would recommend this for little ones who love trains.
The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein
4.0
This was a powerful book. I saw the movie The Walk around my job, but I wasn't too sure what it was about and then I checked out this book because it was a Caldecott Award winning book. It chronicles the journey of Philippe Petit, the amazing man who walked between the World Trade Centers.
Of course because this is a Caldecott book the artwork was amazing. It definitely was nostalgic towards the end with its reference to the world trade centers considering that they are no longer present. I think this book overall is a great introduction to the person that is Philippe as well as a way to grow a greater appreciation for the World Trade Center and the legacy that they ultimately hold.

I read this book as a part of the picture book challenge I am participating in on my blog. One of the categories was to read a book that is a Caldecott Honor Winner so I decided to choose this book. If you're interested in the picture book categories I'll be reading from as part of the challenge be sure to check out the link here: 2017 Challenges
I love this author. I read one of his other picture books Blizzard last year and I really enjoyed it. This picture book focuses on the story of what happens when all the lights go off in a neighborhood and everyone has to disconnect from what they've been doing. That's essentially what I loved about this picture book. It heavily focuses on the concept of disconnecting and making sure we don't become so absorbed in the things that we do on a daily basis that we forget about enjoying the simple moments. The ending definitely fortifies this concept.
The artwork is definitely spectacular. It's rich and vibrant with color and definitely captures the attention of the reader. This is a wonderful book to use if you are interested in doing a storytime that is at night and the children come in their pajamas or even if you are focused on teaching little ones how to just enjoy the company of family and friends especially when they are growing up in a world that is so connected through technology. I fully enjoyed this picture book and would recommend checking out this author if you haven't done so already.
