Ella, the Slayer by A.W. Exley

This book wasn't really for me, that being said it was a good story, think the Ever After film with Drew Barrymore with added Zombies.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
4.0
I was one of the people who watched the tv show (atleast season 1) before reading the books so I will naturally compare the two in my head. In my opinion the tv show is better, not because of any big changes in the storyline or anything like that but simply the changes they made with the characters themselves, in the TV show Claire was a strong woman, unfazed by the blood and gore that became a daily occurrence, in the book she seems a little more flighty and squeamish at times which considering she has seen battlefield injuries, a nail through the ear shouldn't make you feel even a little faint. Jamie was also harder to like in the books, it's hard to put it any other way, it takes Claire longer to train him into what is and is not acceptable behaviour, he tries to force himself on her at one point not seeming to understand that it was a problem. He has some tender moments but definitely some less appealing moments too.
Overall I would reccomend this book to someone who has not watched the tv series or who has and would not be bothered by the extra violence and inappropriate behaviour.
Also am I the only one who thinks falling through time is an acceptable level of magic but magically seeing the future in a bowl of water seems far fetched?

This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay

As someone who has never (and would never) be a doctor, the inner workings of the NHS was something I didn't even think about. This book really makes you see it all a little more clearly. Most of this book is comprised of funny stories and anecdotes, however, it also describes some of the struggles and the pain caused by the job. I listened to the audiobook when I couldn't sit down to read and that's done excellently too.
I would like to mention that I have quite a dark sense of humour and not easily disturbed by talk of gore and such so my experience of the book may differ from others. If it isnt your thing, dont read it. The book gets darker as it goes and there were a few scenes that even disturbed me. Every story is there for a reason though and I think he does an excellent job of telling his story.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. The authors story held my intrest from page one all the way to the end. It describes the story of how she went from a mountain girl who until seventeen didn't know basic information that most of us take for granted all the way to all the way up to an independant woman studying at harvard. She describes her stuggles, confusion, denial and hurt that she experienced. She describes the physical abuse she suffered and the mental abuse which stayed with her long after any physical injuries were healed. Its a surprisingly interesting story and a rare chance to see the world through eyes entirely different than my own.

Cant decide
By the time I finished this book I really enjoyed it however there were several times throughout where I stopped for days as it just didn't keep me riveted like the previous three books.
Definitely need to read if you have read the first three though, it really does conclude the series nicely

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Sweet
Love, love, love. As with any books in this genre you will find yourself cursing the characters and their cluelessness, if you dont mind that then this is the book for you.

Death in the Garden: Poisonous Plants and Their Use Throughout History by Michael Brown
3.0
It was interesting to find out what people used to use each of these plants for however I would have appreciated a little more consistency with the information given. Some plants had pictures, some didn't. There was also a lack of indication on how deadly some of the plants actually were.
Overall an interesting book but not one I'd want to flick through again

Sweet Lies: Alternate Ending by Melony Ann

I loved this alternate ending so much, I understood why the other ending had to happen but it made me sad in so many ways. This book gave me the closure I didn't even know I needed.
Heidi by Johanna Spyri
5.0
I cannot believe I had never even heard of this book before. I found it thanks to an advert for the movie (which I have not yet watched) that said "based on the childrens book....." I am so glad I was finally made aware of this story. It is so sweet and Heidi is such a loveable character. This book was even better than I could have imagined and I have no doubt I will read it again.
Rumpel's Prize by Marie Hall
5.0
Who would have thought I could grow attatched to Rumplestiltskin. This whole series explores the "villains" of the fairytales in the search to find their own happiness, this book is no different. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of a bad boy love story.
