I read this for the buzzwordathon - the only book on my entire owned and unowned TBR with the word 'like' in the title.
Something I was not super expecting was to love this as much as I did - I don't really know why now I think about it. But oh my goodness this was fantastic! Loved the characters and their families and dynamics my god! Evan being a blacksmith - fucking perfection!
I even forgive the epilogue for making Ruth be pregnant because let's be real - Ruth and Evan would make amazing parents and they deserve the world (also it was only the epilogue and the pregnancy part wasn't really the main focus )

Ok so not only did I learn about the author and all the horrific child abuse shit she did, but this was also boring. It was fun for the first couple hundred of pages but then like ... it just kept going and felt stagnant, like nothing was happening and it was gearing up for more nothing to happen for hundreds more pages. I also didn't particularly like the way the characters were written, particularly the female characters who felt like all they were focusing on was which boys were attractive and how they looked in comparison to the other women around them who were competition for either political power, or sexual power.
Overall I am very glad I gave this a go as I would like to read more Arthurian/Medieval stuff and this is always so highly suggested, but I am equally as glad that I can put it down and move on.

I feel like a bit of a broken record, but I am feeling like shit and wanted to read something a bit more lighthearted and chill and this fit the bill (that rhymed! what fun).
This was not particularly impressive, but it was entertaining and I liked the characters and their relationships and was suitably invested in what happened. I do love some less-serious time travel adjacent shenanigans and historical stuff so yayyy. Definitely not like, an incredible book but exactly the experience I wanted - fast and fun.

This was exactly the low-stakes, visually engaging thing I needed right now. Most of my batman knowledge comes from my love of The Lego Batman Movie, so the fact that it absolutely isn't canon compliant is honestly probably for the best. Love all the batfam (and friends) so yayyyy for that!

This was something I bought without knowing shit about it other than 'gothic' and 'queer' and as soon as I actually read the blurb I was a little concerned. The modern setting and general vibe didn't seem like I'd enjoy it - and I was right.
I was largely uninterested in what the characters were doing, even though I think the setup of everything and the tropes etc were good. I just didn't click it with at all.
Two things that got me to put it down were the 'reveal' that she had been living in Umbria in Italy, Dark Heir by C S Pacat has made Umbria a very loaded location for me, and the line "I didn't trust them to handle him gently enough. I didn't trust him to handle himself kindly" on page 175 which is so outta left field. What do you mean you are suddenly protective of Jonathan girl I simply do not believe you. I think he's neat and interesting and exactly the gothic sickly romantic interest I want to read about but this is mental.

Ah this was such an enjoyable read! Wonderfully historical and queer and pining. The characters were simply delightful and I loved seeing them interact and be absolute menaces!

A very fun, engaging read. The characters were all fun, as is the wild fact that the US government almost made hippo-based stuff a reality. Definitely want to get my hands on the sequel and see what happens next!

After having read parts of, and then the entirety of, The Epic of Gilgamesh and thinking 'holy shit this is queer and dramatic as hell I wonder if anyone has done a retelling of this' I found out that someone very recently had. Huzzah!
I will admit, I was a little underwhelmed by this. It obviously doesn't follow the original story without deviation, but I found the amount of changes and the specific changes that were made to be disappointing. But in terms of like, a story with queer characters becoming more well-rounded people it felt pretty good.
Honestly very coming of age like, almost young adult vibes? Which isn't bad, but wasn't what I wanted I don't think. Let Gilgamesh and Endiku be selfish and flawed and messy instead of being like, strangely wholesome? I dunno. I will be reading the second one whenever it comes out though, if only because I am curious to see how the rest of the Epic is played out within this adapted world.

I read this for a class on Sexuality and Gender in the Ancient Near East, and the first half of the Standard Babylonian version for a different class last semester. I think it's absolutely fascinating (and wonderfully queer and chaotic) so yaay. And there is a lot of academic preamble and details in this edition which was undeniably useful.

I wanted to read something quick, cute and smutty and this delivered on all three. Talia Hibbert is a gift from god, I love the way she writes characters and even though this was like, not as polished as some of her later works and was quite short I had a brilliant time.
